Gobble Gobble

That is a georgous call. Im going to try turkey hunting this year it should be a good time. Good luck with it

That's a beauty Ryan. Looks like the striker is Bocote maybe? What's the puck - cocobolo?

Pete,

I believe the puck is cocobolo but I'm not sure on the striker. I'll confirm what they are with Steve and let you know. Or maybe he will chime in.

Cocobolo is one of my favorites, I see a lot of it in the traditional archery community. I think three of my long bows have cocobolo risers. Never seen it used in turkey calls before but it sure makes a statement.

Thanks, Chris. Steve Steffy from this site makes them and does a really nice job. Good luck this Spring.

Hey There Ryan,

I was just getting ready to send ya a message to make sure the call arrived okay. I see that it did...The call itself is made from a really fine piece of Amboyna Burl and the striker is made from Bocote. (I noted that info on the back of my business card). I do make them from cocobolo as well, along with some other wood types- domestic and exotic. I suppose it's almost time to start turning my attention back to turkey calls now.

We just got back from Chesapeake Bay yesterday...you honestly didn't miss much this year - hopefully next year will be better.

Thank you for the kind words everybody,
Steve

Thanks Steve - never even looked at the back of the card.

Bummer about your trip, hope next season works out better. Thanks again for the call I can't wait to put it to use this Spring.

Ryan

Oh heck, even with the lack of birds it was a really good time. We did manage to bag a few brant and missed some shots on other birds. More importantly, I put my boat to the test down there. We did encounter some choppy seas on a couple of days. All the repairs I did seem to have held up really well. There were also some learning experiences and exploratory missions as well. That's half the fun right there.

Anyway, practice up with your new call...the season will be here before you know it. Send a picture with your call and that big Tom if you think of it. Good luck and hunt safe,

Steve
