Well a great season for ducks is behind us but goose is still open in my area till the 26th so my buddy Mike and I set up this am hoping to decoy a few in. Well it turned out ok. All morning we enjoyed widgeon, mergansers, blacks, gadwall flying all over landing in our decoys. Finally had some geese commit, we downed 2 nice birds and mine had a band (my first banded goose) All in all a great day on the water. New storm coming in tomorrow more snow and ice..

Nice job Rich. Our season closes on Saturday and all my spots have been iced since the start of the special season and I will be out of business till September. I guess the winter has been pretty tough since that bird pushed pretty far south for a resident goose. All my resident goose bands are within a 10-15 miles of the banding site and even my last two duck bands have been in state black ducks.

Nice birds.
Chappell Tractor is in Milford is 10 miles north of my house.
We haven't seen or heard a Canada in the past weeks with the "polar vortex" freeze. Our season ends this Saturday but with the incoming storm allegedly dropping another 12+ on us I doubt we will see them until Sunday, cause I know they know when the season ends. Lol

Congradulations on your banded goose--It was banded as part of an annual effort by Fish and Game to band flightless adults and broods. We try to band about 600-700 geese a year. Usually the majority of birds come from Hillsborough Co. although most of the state is also sampled.

Nothing like geese over water! Congrats on the band, Rich. From what I see & hear on the weather channels, you timed it just right.

thanks for all the nice replies. I have never field hunted for these birds, getting them to commit over water around these parts is quite challenging, they tend to only do so when snow covers the school yards and parks.
