Thanks everyone! Johnathan, I like a nice clean looking decoy but never feel that mine have that look. I'm glad that someone thinks so.

Tim, I really like the tacks as well. I believe that I will be using them a lot more................................Kevin

Kevin,

Very nice! I really like the style you're developing. I also think they have a nice "clean" look to them.

On a side note about seeing your own work differently than others... I have a black duck in my rig I painted a few years ago. I was never really satisfied with the paint. Last year while hunting over a mixed rig of my blocks and a friends blocks I really liked the way the one black duck looked from sitting in the boat 30' or so away. Turns out it was mine! I still get overly critical of my painting (I don't carve) but they are purely gunners and I try to remember to evaluate them as such. I've not developed a style per say that I stick to yet. Still trying a lot of different things.

Thank's Dave.........

Gene, I too am overly critical. Especially for gunners. I'm sure that I will enjoy seeing them on the water but I have to say that I have not yet made and painted a decoy that I am really happy with yet. There just seems to be too many greats out there and I can't help but aspire to be at their level. In due time I suppose. Either way I truly enjoy this hobby.........................Thank's for putting things into perspective.........................Best, Kevin

Kevin I like the bird a lot she is a beauty. There is something that appears flat in the neck it may be the angle of the camera.

Hey Tom do you mean a flat spot or flat paint? Which pic? I may have missed something..................Kevin

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

Charlie, You'll do just fine. Try and pick a general style and emulate that. You know that Jodie Hllman got me started last year. I need to make time for another visit for more pointers. I also speak on the regular with Lenny Maiorano of Rutherford. He gives me honest critiques. I live so close to guys like George Strunk and Rick Brown and others as well but would not want to bother them you know. I just pick their brains a bit at the decoy shows...........................Best of luck with the carving brother....................Kevin
