I just got home from our local hospital. I "lost" a few hours of my life yesterday. Guess I feel real fortunate to be here typing this. I don't really know exactly what happened, as I have absolutely no recollection of the chain of events which landed me in the hospital.

From the evidence it is pretty apparent that I rode a ladder to the ground from the roof joists inside my garage. No blood on the floor but it must have rung my bell pretty hard. I can't recall the event nor even why I was on the ladder. All I know (now after getting home from the hospital) is that the ladder is bent, twisted and tangled up on top of my snow blower. Items that were in a box in the rafters, are now scattered on the garage floor, and there is a skid mark from the ladder's rubber foot on the garage floor.

I'm going to be just fine but, it is really weird not to be able to recall about 30 hours of my life. My wife says I came into the house missing my eyeglasses and covered with sawdust. When she asked me "what happened?" I just replied "Nothing". She then went to start her vehicle so she could take me uptown to my doctors office. Coming back inside, she discovered me throwing up and decided I needed an ambulance ride to the hospital.

It's really weird, I can not recall any of these events, even the morning's happenings prior to the accident. It's just like about 30 hours of my life did not exist. I don't remember going to the garage, I don't remember falling, don't remember throwing up or talking to my wife. I don't remember the ambulance ride or the first several hours in the hospital.

I guess it shows me two things maybe three, (a) Accidents can happen is a nanosecond (b) life can be fragile (c) never never take your loved ones for granted.

Please give you wife or loved one a hug today,,,, everyday. Thanks

Yeeesh Dave. Glad you're doing ok. I've heard that when you have a traumatic event your body can give you 'short-term amnesia' as a way to help deal with the accident. Good thing your wife was home when this happened and called for help. What is it with DHBP members and hospitals...

Take it easy for a few days.

glad you are ok! be more careful next time (wear a helmet)! i've lost hours of my life before.. but usually that was from heavy drinking ... that's a whole nother story ;)

Sounds like a severe concussion. I lost several hours of my life during High School football and know what you mean...it's disorienting. I'm sure your sweet wife is watching you so we don't have to worry about a relapse.

I was gonna bust your chops over the spokeshave post and the little angel on my shoulder changed my mind. Glad your still with us.

Dave,

Man that's scary... Can't tell ya how glad I am to hear your ok... We'll have to have a talk at work about folks your age using ladders.... :) If you need anything, please give me a call.

Jeff

Dave,

I've got to agree with Jeff here, as an experienced ladder ridder myself, I will say that guys your age shouldn't be riding ladders. Get Jeff to come over and help you out the next time you need a box out of the garage attic...in fact, as long as he's there, and "volunteered" to help, you might as well have him clean up that mess in your garage.

Really though, glad to hear your going to be alright, without you around here I'd have to pick on Paully that much more.

Jeff, you might want to bring your own ladder.

Best
Chuck

dave, really happy to hear your ok.hope your feeling better.i always read the good advice you give to everyone.huge your wife tonight again.take care of yourself, paul

HEY DAVE YOU WERETHE FIRST TO WELCOME ME HERE LAST YEAR GLAD TO HERE YOU ARE OK ,TAKE BREATHER FOR A WHILE AND KISS EVERY ONE IN YOUR FAMILY AND TELL THEM YOU LOVE THEM LIFE CAN CHANGE IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE

Missing eyeglasses, covered in sawdust, bent ladder, claim to not know what happened. Sounds like someone is having a little hanky panky on the side. I've used the same excuse myself.

Man Dave, that is scary. I am so glad you are OK. I'm sure the doctor told you the same thing but watch yourself for a few days as severe concussions can take awhile to manifest. We just had a kid go down in hockey and his family took him to a neurotrauma center which was a good thing.

Take care of yourself Dave. Let me know if you need anything.

Sounds like you got a good knock on the old gourd. Glad that you are OK. Get some rest and feel better. Those types of injuries take a while to heal up and can come back to haunt you if you don't take the time to get better. Believe me, I know!

Did yer head hurt the garage floor???
I'll agree with Lee and guess severe concussion. Seems to me I did the throwing up thing and blurred vision, etc when I had one (and I don't have anything in my head to hurt).

Glad yer OK. Take life easy for a few days, at our age I'd probably be a bit achy about now, suspect you might be too. Glad you didn't break any bones either.

Dave

That's scary stuff. Sure hope you are okay. You might want to check and see if the concrete is cracked. If you landed on your head it didn't stand a chance:) On a more serious note be sure to follow all your doctors orders and go back to the hospital at the first sign something isn't right.

Dave, Bad wine can do the same thing. Any empty bottles around ?
