How Sweet it is.

Yesterday was a chance at a sky busting free marsh. Youth Day #2. I need to have more kids so I can keep doing this till I retire.

We headed out early to get to a good spot. Weather was still but cold and the water had a skim of ice. Dog was ready and so was John. We bundled up and set the decoys out when we got to the spot. Sleeping in a Sanford Box sure looks nice. The dog and I hid in the muck.
Birds moved early but we were off the X a bit and they were not hooking into the decoys. A few around but not much. Still in the early doldrums of the season.
Took a few pictures and then decided to make a small adjustment. Ate a twinkie(or 4) and had some bad gas station hot chocolate. Then we got a break and we had a little action.
John did his part on a pair that made a very low pass right over him. He described it as Low House station 1. The King of the New England Woods had fallen right out front.

Dog followed his assignment to the nines and we were across the goal line.

I built John a KARA when he was born (Instead of finishing the Kitchen Floor for his mom). It was worth every day of 11 years waiting for the hug I got for his first bird.

What a way to start a long and great hunting career.

Bob, Just doesn't get much better! I used to really enjoy the youth days when Meg was the appropriate age.

John, Congratulations! Nice way to start your duck shooting career. See you out there.

Bob, Don't have too many or you may never retire! Great shots; no doubt a day he'll always remember.

I think I may have already tipped that scale,,, with three total and two of them daughters!

Jim,
we didnt want to bother you working but I drove right by and had to pull in to check if you were free. We will get it right one of these days. John wanted to see the boats.

Thanks to all you guys. This has been a great ride and looks to be getting better every day. We ate that bird after plucking it whole, then I split it, and we covered it in salt and pepper and a little thyme and grilled it over a wood fire. Seared first then slow, off the coals, till just done. Rubbed it all over with apricot jam and served with a coke. Just what the shooter wanted.

We are going to start a decoy next week to mark the occasion. I am thinking a brother to our good luck charm from Vermont should do just fine.
