Jim Cantore is apparently here in Tallahassee.....greeeeaaaatttt

Anyway, I am evacuating west with the dogs early in the morning. My dad is staying. We shall see if that was a wise idea.

I hope for as little destruction and loss of life as possible. Good luck.....
 
The forecast keeps getting better us and worse for y’all. They are predicting a huge storm surge from Chassahowitzka and west.

I’m one of them weirdos that likes bad weather … I would be with your dad riding it out with my feet propped up..

Was hoping we would be in path ..
 
My dad does have the added benefit of having a concrete house. So he is likely quite safe. I did enjoy watching the trees dance while I sheltered at his house when Idalia blew through last year. But she rolled in in the day light. I have been through enough of these that roll in at night, the tornadoes you can't see, or trees you can only hear snapping and feel hitting the ground, your house shaking as it is pelted with magnolia bombs (green cones) or limbs landing on the house or even hail that I decided long ago that any more major storms coming....just get out.

Plus, Belle does not like storms like this. Makes her shake even with intense thunderstorms. This will be Reggie's first major storm. I don't want him to become weather shy too.

Now getting home may prove very difficult depending on where she comes ashore....

The storm surge here is predicted to be 15-20 ft on top of a high tide. I truly hope the folk on the coast left. I don't think I have ever seen a 15-20 ft surge predicted. Carl's area may deal with some decent surge too. I know there is a storm surge warning from Appalachicola to the Everglades.

Y'all in the Carolinas watch out for the rain and flash flooding....
 
As of 7:30am this morning, Tampa Bay is seeing a 2-3' storm surge right now, and it climbing. We are predicted to get 5' plus.
We're also seeing steady winds about 10mph with gusts to 25mph.
Already 2" of rain since last night.
The storm is still pretty far out.
7:00Am Storm Surge Predictions, if these hold up, Cedar Key and Steinhatchee will be devastated, again, Crystal River wont fare much better:
STORM SURGE: The combination of a life-threatening storm surge and the tide will cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded
by rising waters moving inland from the shoreline. The water could reach the following heights above ground somewhere in the indicatedareas if the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide...

I made it to Crestview early this morning. I didn't sleep well so I left about 4:30 this morning. Light rain and even lighter traffic all the way over. Easiest evacuation I have ever been a part of.

I have to wait til 3 pm to check into my hotel so I have been hanging out at the walmart parking lot with about 50 of my newest evacuee friends. Lots of nice chatting with folk from little towns all around Tallahassee.

Only one real rain band has come through here. But the breeze is picking up here...nice temps for sitting outside

The storm surge is being emphasized on being awful in my area. Up to 20' like Carl posted...they say to evacuate to elevations above 30'. My dad is farther inland than the surge warning area but he is only at 23'. We shall see how that plays out since the St Marks river is just around the corner from him
 
Wind has really picked up here, we have steady 10-20 with steady gusts over 35 now.
A large limb just came down in my neighbors yard, blocking 1/2 the street.
Dani, most of my colleagues in Tallahassee also evacuated, I think you made a smart move.

Most of my colleagues are sheltering at work. Some left too but sounds like most are staying. Mind boggling but I wish them well.

Stay safe Carl....looks like most of the peninsula is feeling tropical force winds/gusts
 
It’s pretty sporty here right now. Gusts close to hurricane force and sideways rain. Two huge limbs just missed our neighbors house. Power keep flickering. Just heard a transformer blow.
 
You guys stay safe down there. Evacuate if necessary. I also have friends in St Pete, Gulf Port, Dunedin and Tarpon Springs and the pictures I'm seeing don't look good!
 
Amazingly we still have power. TS force winds steady with gusts just under hurricane. But then the eye is 120 miles to the west of us. Tampa bay has a 5’ storm surge and rising.

Yea … sorry not going out at work.. I’ll crawl out in the street on my death bed .. but at work is not going to happen
Work is a job …. Job doesn’t equate risk bodily harm unless US forces or the popo. I was that naive once never again
 
Dani, I'm glad you easily made it to safety. I hope your father does well at home too. Keep up updated.
Prayers for anyone in dangers way
 
Ain’t bad in Destin. I always spoil the significant other on her birthday before season really starts for me. We flew in yesterday, without a single delay, winds were maybe 10-20 and just rain all day. Seems it shifted east big time towards the big bend of Florida. Supposed to be partly cloudy and sunshine today. Sure glad she didn’t pick Savannah Georgia to go again, they seem to be getting pounded this year. A couple years ago that’s where we went and flew in on Hurricane day as well. Went right around Savannah but pounded Charleston. Think we both agreed we will start planning this big trip every year away from the southeast part of the country.
 
Found out this morning that the storm surge got within 2 blocks of our house. 2’ more surge and we’d would have had water in our lowest room. Dodged a bullet. Many areas here are devastated. The images coming out of Georgia and North Carolina are mind boggling.
 
My place and my dads place survived. We dodged a bullet here for sure. I have a couple truck loads of debris piled up but otherwise, no issues. I just got power and internet back. Comcast needs to come by and reattach their cable line from the power pole back to my house.

Otherwise, I did better that some of my newest evacuee friends' places did. Sad for them since this is the third storm in basically a year to devastate their community.
