Stay safe Carl.....looks like I will be the "lucky" one and I will likely just get some thunderstorms.....

Updated forecast suggests Tampa area as the most likely landfall. But the whole gulf coast of FLA is in the crosshairs.

Stay safe.

Thanks!
We are in the bullseye this time.
I've boarded up, cleaned up and secured as much as I can.
Camp stoves are inside, flashlights all over the house and supplies layed up.
My wife and daughter went to Huntsville to stay with our son.
i will hold the fort.

best of luck Carl, I was just logging into the national hurricane center to see how Dani was looking, but looks like you are the one. Best of luck, it is such a crazy feeling waiting for one to show up! Keep safe and let us know that all is clear when you get a chance.

Good luck Carl and other Floridians. Looks like it'll hit south of you. My son in Key West says its ripping but the storm is blowing water away from his side of the island and winds are only gusting to 60 mph so far.

So far so good, but we are just starting to get the heavy rain bands and tropical storm force gusts here in Tampa.

This storm has turned into a monster, 155mph winds in the eyewall.
Naples, Cape Coral, Venice, ort Charlotte and Sarasota will take a catastrophic hit.
The storm has also slowed down, we will be in this for a full 36 hours.

I'm about a 1/2 mile from the water, with a front yard elevation of 11'. But storm surge is not a major concern, its takes a perfect storm with a perfect alignment to push storm surge into Tampa Bay due to its alignment and narrow mouth.
And now, this us being on the west side, its actually pushing water out of the bay.

Carl,
Could you please keep us updated as much as you can. My daughter and her husband live in Tampa. They are a mile and a half from Old Tampa Bay and Hillsborough Bay. I feel like I should pack my 4 Runner with my construction tools and head down from Indiana for the clean up. Be safe.

Hunker down! Checked the update after I sbot my second wood duck of the morning (and missed what would have been the third).

It looks like a lot of the Gulf coast now has a 12-18' surge possible, though I think that's all south of Tampa.

Rod,
Its hard to say if we will have a lot of damage here.
The worst will be south and east of us.
Trees are the wild card.

Tide gage in Naples looks bad. Storm surge about 9'. Also looks like it stopped collecting data around 1 this afternoon.

My wife's aunt lives in Naples. Less than a mile from the water. No word on whether she evacuated, keeping our fingers crossed. Best of luck to everyone in FL.

Good luck to your family. I've got a bunch of fishing buddies who retired to Naples/Fort Myers area. They are inland a bit, but still worried.

I just got off the phone with my buddy from Sarasota. He had to leave his place on the water and his boat is still in the marina. He received his new boat in April, so we will see what happens. He just sent me a picture of the bay and it was almost dry looking. The storm sucked all the water out. My guess it is getting ready to unleash on this location and we have plane tickets to go and visit him in February. He might be rebuilding have another boat that will need to be ordered up.
