Hurricane Sandy

My wife and I rode out hurricane Andrew in Florida in 92. Storm made landfall 1 mile from our home 150 mph winds. Moved to VA only to have to deal with hurricanes again. Oh well we will hunker down with our 3 labs drink a bottle of red and say our prayers!!

Thanks for the well wishes guys. Lets just hope everyone up and down the coast fares well.
I'm not running any more boats to our marina. Tomorrow will be spent securing all the boats that are in the water then moving everything that can be moved to higher ground.

It looks like we will get hit hardest Monday into Tuesday. Here is the local marine forcast for the area:

No fun... I was supposed to be spending the day tomorrow cutting grass and working on my blind and duckboat. Instead I am moving the boats where trees cant fall on them and making sure mine and my fathers yards are ready for the storm. Let's hope Mother Nature spares the brunt of the wind and rain, but I fear the storm surge may be the worst part. Best of luck to you John and anyone else working around the water...

From what I am seeing, Sandy looks to be one huge storm. I am hoping that everyone looks at safety first. Be careful and if you live in this zone, my thoughts are of your families and home.

I think the Chesapeake Bay to Long Island folks are getting the brunt of this. Our forecast calls for a 2 day blow, but peak winds around 35 knots gusting to 45, and peak seas 12-15 feet. No fun, but nothing like what John's got to deal with.

Looking forward to the shift to north winds that ought to be behind this storm!

It's looking like it may track right up the delaware bay. Not good for alot of folks and our local duck shack camp. Last time a storm took this track was 1952 and quite a few lost their lives including some hunters that were caught unawares. Thank goodness for the advance warning were have now to get out of harms way.

I hope everyone on the east coast has got a good jump on things. It looks like winds are going to be with us for almost three days. This is not looking good.

Yeah, overnight it took a bit of a turn North, but is still centered on Jersey. Best of luck everyone, we are hoping to have things wrapped up here today. It is going to be a looong couple days for everyone, especially you guys on the coast.

Sounds like the Perfect Storm. Finished securing Duck Blind & Duck Boat. Good Luck to everyone with the storm Sandy.
Great Hunting Season to all. Dave D.

High tide this morning already looked like a bad nor'easter. Can't imagine what it will look like in another day or two. God luck everyone. Luke

Although I'm now safely (from this storm anyway) living in the middle of the country, I am feeling for you folks back east. I hope you all weather the storm OK and don't suffer too much damage. Be safe and good luck.

Here are a few pics from this mornings high tide in Stone Harbor, NJ. I think this storm will be setting some records in the next couple days.

Nothing like what you guys are going to see up here, but we're still preparing to hunker down. My boat sits on a haul-out on a shore exposed to the east wind, so I went down this afternoon to pull it. I sure wish Maine allowed Sunday hunting, because it would have been epic. Before heading upriver to the launch, I rode over to my usual east wind spot and put up what must have been 500+ mixed teal, blacks and mallards. I tossed out three decoys, hid the boat on shore, and watched them all come piling back in for a half hour or so.

I sure wish I could hunt tomorrow morning before the storm hits, but I have an early morning meeting--and better safe than sorry.

We had flooding in the street already this afternoon at low tide. South side of town is already under manditory evacuation. Expected winds 80 to 100 mph with a surge of 6' - 12'.
I hope you guys in NJ are ok. It looks like your going to take the hit.

Water over the bulkhead in Freeport too John...not gonna be good !

No it's not!
I just went outside after hearing something bag on the side of the house. I know everything on my property is tied down and secured. Turns out it was a piece of vinyl siding from the second floor. I was just on the first floor roof doing a quick siding repair. I'm glad it was easily accessable.

Weather channel saying rarity bay, new York harbor, long island sound will begetting the worst of the storm surge.
