Should be fun down here on the northern Jersey coast. About 2 blocks from the river, but thankfully out of the flood zone. Will be interesting to see how long we lose power for, have the genset now after Irene.

Turn out was very light.
Not many vendors in attendance. On the up side the my BBIII took 3 place and it's not even fully completed yet.
Even though turn out was lite I had a lot of flyers taken and booked 3 guys for hunts. So, I guess it was not to bad.

Good for you.Im surprised they didnt go with the rain date. My friends didnt go because they were getting ready for Sandy

I think they made the wrong call. I know this show is their biggest money maker of the year but I think they would have been better off going with the rain date.

Im sure things will start looking uglier by morning. We are hunkered down and I think we are pretty prepared with food, water, chainsaw, generator, dry wood. Hope everyone stays safe. Hope this doesn't ruin the duck season like it did last year. Good luck, see you all on the other side.

I agree 100% John.

This was low tide this afternoon. You can see the high water line next to the building. If the surge does go 8'-12' my office will be completey under water.

John... you know why I didnt come. I pretty much ready for Sandy, but figured with everyone else getting ready the turnout would be light. Very surprised they didnt go with the rain date, I was looking forward to going to the show this year, I havent been in 3 yrs.

Bob,

We were about 3.5' above normal high tide with Ireene.

Chris,

I really didn't want to go but I had everything else under control. The only thing I had left to do was take down all the canvas on my big boat..
My brother through a wrench in my plans late this afternoon. He was bringing his boat to the ramp to haul it out and broke down a few hundred yards from the dock. I went back to my office to get another boat and tow him back in. Nothing like waiting for the last minute....

Wanted to let you guys know what i just pulled up on the real weather reports. Seems like my game plan for tonight just changed a little bit. I hope everyone out there is taking in as much info as they can get and not just the weather channel. Don't get me wrong but it kinda sucks that they are bypassing everyone to let NY know what's going on. It would be nice to inform the people a little closer to the storm better first. These are the marine forecasts i just pulled up to give me an idea of what we are up against. Hold on tight boys.

Chester ,

I could not agree more.
I always check NOAA National Data Bouy Center for real time info. It's taken right from the offshore bouys. no BS just real time data.

Yeah i hope everybody on the coasts are all together and ready. It really sucks when these things get worse in the dark. Last one sounded like a train was just outside my house. Kept looking out in the dark with my spotlight for trees coming down. Never seen them, just heard em. Please excuse my comments about the weather channel. I guess i just hate the weather man so much cause its the only job you can maybe get right 80% of the time and still have a job.
Just keep in mind guys somebody will be tying up boats through this, cutting trees, moving people to a safer place, and god knows what else. It may not be you, but it always comes around when you help those who need it.

Good luck to everyone

Carl - I took my last fishing trip Friday and the ocean was like a lake offshore 15 miles. Today, seas are 12 feet and will build to 25 during the day. It's also a full moon so the normal 9 1/2 foot tide will be about 11 + without a storm. From the latest this morning, it looks like south of us will get the worst of it but also the great lakes, all of them, may have monster waves.
Stay safe everyone so you can live to gun again another day.

Here are some photos from earlier today just after high tide. The tidal surge tonight is expected to be 6-8 feet higher than this. We are in for some deep do do. The water was flooding the street 1/2 mile north of our marina.

While I don't have a million dollar yacht to worry about I loaded my 30' Boston Whaler on its tripple axle trailer. It's tied down to the trailer and double anchored. I set it this way so it after the tide goes out it should settle down still on the trailer not to far from where I left it. At least that the idea. The water has not reached me yet but you can see in the next photo it came within a few yards. With tonights high tide expected to break historical records it should be floating. I just hope some of the larger yacht around me bounce off and float around me instead of rolling over on top of my boat.

Hey John -

So, the boats that aren't in the water but on land, are they just going to float away? Looks like it won't take too much more water leve to float them. Bummer. I know what that 48' Sea Ray is worth.

You be safe. Take care of yourself. All property can be replaced.

We have tied up some of the boat on land so they don't get to far. We have done all we can to secure all assets.
I just got home and lost power to our house.
Good thing for scrapes of plywood laying around. My neighbors grind window just blew in so I got to board that up.
I hope everyone is making out ok.
Good luck and be careful.

Everyone along the East Coast stay safe! I can't imagine having to deal with that like some of y'all have. Material things can be replaced.

Storm is picking up pretty significant here in Southern Maryland. Hope everyone is doing ok, sounds like it will be a very rough night for most folks up and down the coast. Hang in there. Just a thought about the hunting days ahead, make sure you the next time you go out in your boat that you take it easy because of all the debris that will surely be in the water and make sure to check depths where you usually hunt, these tides and currents change the bottom and depths drastically after a storm like this.
