I had one of those days...

where everything unraveled.

My cousin an I went out a couple of weeks ago, with his 4 rivers boat in tow (we were in my 2 man sneakbox). Low speeds because the motor was in need of counseling, so we stayed close. Headed to a spot nearby and someone was already there, turned back to call it a day. Well, not thinking, focused forward, and day dreaming that I need a new motor soon, my cousin taps my shoulder and points to his boat in tow. Long story short, that boat dived like a loon on the turn and all his stuff was floating. Quickly cut the tow line, cause the tension was too much (no cleat, tied to a hog ring).

The positives of this story are 1) knife was ready 2) all his gear floated 3) he just got a decoy bag, and they all stayed in the bag 4) we were able to laugh about the event after we reclaimed the gear and found the closest shore to drain the sunken tub and 5) we ended up hunting another spot to enjoy the day, even had a few birds decoy.

I'll never tow that boat again, it was a lesson learned.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile but I'll post some pictures of Chance (my new chessie) out in the marsh, once I get the film developed.

Did that with Pete McMillers KARA behind my BB2 about 7 years ago on the Mississippi. Looked back to see what was bogging us down and wondered....where the hell is Pete's boat? Let off the gas and it popped up. We had deke bags bungied in it so it floated. Limped over to the island...horsed it up as high as we could on the bank...pulled the plug that Pete smartly installed and watched it squirt like a beached whale for 5 minutes. After that, we shortened the line and stacked deke bags in the back to keep the bow up. I'm glad we didn't spear one of the 3 million submerged stumps.

Glad to see I'm in good company. The bow was spearing the mud bottom, there was so much mud on the bow that the stern was up in the air (hence why we had to cut the line). We weren't going fast at all, just putting around. I was amazed that nothing was lost! My cousin is new to waterfowling, but he's got the bug big time, and thankfully has purchased floating bags, gun case, and a boat. I recommended the Fatboy DP but why would I expect him to listen to me.

Jack, all I can say it still beat being at work.
I thought at least it would have caught a fish or some clams.
