I ned a good sourse for canvas turnbutton fasteners

Hi:
I am having a cockpit cover made for my Snowgoose. I wanted them to use the turnbutton fasteners, as I am fearful of using snap buttons in the winter. Does anyone know of a source where one can buy non-stainless turnbuttons? Or if they only come in that chrome finish, does anyone have experience with painting them? I just thought they woud be a little shiney for my boat.Any thoughts or recommendations would be greately appreciated.

In the event you can't find what you are looking for ...

the snaps work well if you put vaseline on them... I've had them for 5 years and no issue. They also paint up well too.

I am afraid of the canvas shrinking in the cost and not being able to streach it over the snap.

As I am a `traditional sort' here is a out in left field suggestion. Not exactly sure what you mean by a canvass turn button... however.

I the old days one would use a piece of hardwood, tapered from the center toward each end. A good piece of cotton (nylon now) would be tied around the center of each hardwood piece. the other end fastened to the boat. The hardwood piece would be slightly shorter (from center to end) than the size of the whole in the canvas. Sew the canvas hole so it doesn't rip. You pass the hardwood piece through the hole lengthwise. When the canvas `pulls' the hardwood piece (now its full length across the whole) will not pull back through. Its not bright, flashy or high tech. but cheap, effective and easily replaced. It would probably look out of place...

Look bulky and not very rugged ("light duty")...

Dave Clark installed 2 metal fasteners (much like the plastic ones) and the standard metal snaps for the rest of the blind/dodger application.

One metal fastener gave way under way too much pressure. I fixed it and released the pressure by moving the metal fastener toward the bow by 1/4".

The standard metal fasteners are quick to use, stay out of the way of grass, dogs, wader boots and decoys and if you apply vaseline ONCE per annum, you will never have a problem.

I started the vaseline trick 3 seasons ago and the snaps are like brand new.
