With the Mississippi still being 4-5 feet above normal, and significant winds I have resorted to going to some small local areas. These are under 150 acres so, if you are not the first one there... you are not going have many opportunities, unless you like sites close enough to talk to the other hunters. Saturday I slept in, and was expecting to see several boats at the landing....instead one fisherman was getting ready to launch. I glassed what looked to be about 13 bills. I was already here... so at 8:30 I launched. I had two individual divers buzz by with the afterburners on. I managed to land a dozen honkers with just my bad flute work and 20 Can decoys... but they were 50+ yards out. 4 more flew right over the top of me.... I was thinking I should have not left the 10 ga in the truck!!!!!
As the day progressed I saw a diver dropping air, and was coming right to me, when to the right, two damn puddle duck were also cupped in. You probably can guess which one got there first...

Sunday I went out for an evening hunt at a local marsh. The group that was there, was literally in the best spot.. .which also happened to be in the middle of the 124 acres. I tucked in just behind a point. I am not going to say it was a bad spot, as I only heard them shoot a few times. I saw no ducks. Otter did get a lesson in patience, as the cattails that we were next to were ALIVE with Red-Winged Blackbirds... I think my lens was a little fogged over, but it still did an OK job of capturing the scene. I think the boat blends in pretty well.
