I thought it was going to hurt a lot more than it did...

Put red rings around the holes and then you know where to aim for next time.
Take care and God Bless

Its all about Building that Bond.

Harry Jobes used to call that antiquing.
Said they were worth more and sold quicker when they showed use like that.

I don't know about the Buffleheads, but you definitely put a good pattern on that Canvasback...

Kinda makes me feel leary about having you overpay for another one of my decoys. I'm not sure the ones you have went to a good home. I hope you don't treat your dog like that.

If you didn't do it yourself.... I would be pissed! If I did it myself, I'd still be pissed! Can't remember last time we had a decoy take a hit like that...must be more than 25 years ago, and they were Carrylite plastics so we didn't worry about them.... but wood or cork, and someone would be writing a check for their new decoy.

You would stroke out with our crew.

Guys, it's all in fun, I knew it was going to happen eventually. I crippled a Buffie coming in and then the swat was a little high and took out my decoy. I was the one shooting. It's a decoy and I'll patch it up tonight and hunt it Friday. Might have to do a repaint at the end of the season tho.

Geoff:
Your decoy is safely on the shelf, it might get scratched from dusting it too much tho, but certainly not abused like I do my own stuff! LOL And let me know, should you want to unload another of those overpriced decoys of yours!

HuntinDave: Thanks for seeing my true potential LOL Yes, I recovered said duck and smacked him around for good measure.

MLBOb: Yes, my friend also mentioned that!

I carve decoys as a hobby, I rarely sell them, so the "value" has more to do with therapy than money. I carve for many reasons, but my rig is just the result of my hobby. No, I didn't want to whack it, but it happens. If I had destroyed it, I can just carve another. The best part is, I love to carve and paint decoys, so how could that make me mad?

I have several like that... a dab of epoxy on the holes and paint them up...I did however have one buffy decoy with a pellet that suck in the side of the head, I sealed it in there, no paint...call him lefty now. He was the "gapper" decoy out in the middle with a long string...Was not happy when it happened, but like you said, you get over it. If you dont' want them shot, don't use them.

congrats on the buffie, hehehe, how did he taste? LOL

Terry,

I do hope you realize it is all in fun and my terminology is a play of words from your earlier post. You carve a very nice Canvasback decoy. I'd be proud to float it as is complete with character.

Hi Dave. I remember! We were off the mouth of the Winooski River hunting with the guy who drove the tool truck and his sons. One of his sons nailed it as I recall!

Its funny because if I pepper my own decoy, I don't get pissed, but if someone else does I get mad! LOL. Those are nice decoys Terry. My brother peppered one of my cedar buffies like that a few years ago, after the repair you couldn't even tell it got hit.

"I have a number of them and the boat rule is that you sign the bottom of the decoy. I have a nice collection of signatures. :) "

I really like Hanks solution. Definitely shows you use your decoys. And it helps you remeber the day.
My partners and I have definitely hit a few of ours. Especially when using a new pup. We try to make sure every bird is down prior to sending the youngsters.

Terry - Part of the plight of a gunning decoy. It happens and it's okay... Hopefully whatever you swatted on the water is now tablefare...
