Kevlar strands

Does anyone know where I could source kevlar fiber strands? At work we have a shoot tube that used to be filled to the brim with kevlar strands and we could safely shoot into it to collect fired bullets from guns that the bullets kept fragmenting in the water tank.

Long story short, our kevlar strand filling was thrown out (not by us) and we need replacement filling. The vendor that we ordered from months ago has not sent our order and apparently we are having a hard time actually talking to anyone there.

I figured since kevlar cloth is sometimes used here, maybe some folk here might have other sources that we haven't found yet.

Thanks a lot,

Dani

Other than what RM provided above (likely your best answer), maybe contact a fiber optic cable manufacturer and see if they give it away. It is used in the shielding of the cables.

You probably have this all figured out by now. DuPont was the inventor and manufacturer of these aramid fibers since foreverr. This just sold the aramid fiber business to Archlin in April of this year. I bet if you called Tech support of Customer relations and explained who you are, who you work for, and what you are looking for, they would send you some fibers free of charge. DuPont did that for my years ago.

I thought of low cost alternatives as well but if Dani is asked to present forensic ballistic evidence in a trial, the other side would surely look for ways to discredit her testimony. Perhaps not the place to pinch pennies.

Thanks Mark for that info. I'll definitely keep it in mind if there is a next time with this situation.

As far as pinching pennies....luckily, all I do is look for suppliers for things if our normal vendors do not have what we need. Our business manager will decide whether or not to use someone new or tell me to find someone/something else if they do not approve.
