Last years restoration...continued

Thanks guys.

Bob B - you have not see the best part in comfort yet. Thats still to come.

Bill Ferrar - I wish I could sew like that. I have a local canvas shop that I use for all my canvas work at the marina so when I need something for myself he gets right on it.

Mike Branden - I'll get some more detailed photos posted of the complete dodger and it fixtures. As far as the hits, I have been watching the count go up. I'm glad I decided to document this restoration. It has made it all that much more fun and hopefully it can help some others out there get some ideas. After all, thats what this site is all about and I'm very happy to contribute.

So here is the latest progress from this afternoon.
Motor mount is installed

You have done a nice job restoring this boat John and I bet she is going to be a sweet little ride.what size engine are you going to put on her, Im looking forward to seeing some pictures on the water all cammo up.
take care and God Bless
Eddie.

Eddie,

I have it set up to run a 25hp on it.
I was going to take it for a ride today but instead I had to dig out the tender, get the ice eaters going and shovel snow at home.

We will have to see what tomorrow brings

Wo we have had some snow but nothing like that, I supose John the only conserlation you have is, if the wife kicked you out you could build a igloo.
take care and God Bless
Eddie

Ed. 20 inches fell in the yard===by mid morning, thanks to a neighbor and his snow blower--old guy-i did his driveway, ours, and sidewalks, we are now dug out---waiting for the e$%&%^$% plow to come thru--maybe tuesday---off to the marsh with Earl tomorrow--hopefully, the ne flooding was minor and left us a new source of water at the eden blind--we shall see!
Hope the walking has not been giving you any problems, buddy!
Nice work on the bbsb, John.

John would a 25 not be to heavy for your BBSB, just thinking of the weight on the transom.

George our snow is only a sprinkling compared to 20 inches but the gritters are out on the roads as for walking Im managing about 800-1000 yards a day with no pain.

take care and God Bless
Eddie.

Eddie,

The 25hp is only 28lbs more than the 15hp that was on it. When I repaired the stern of the boat I went heavy on the glass reinforcement and used additionl support on the inside of the boat. I wrapped several layers of biaxel glass over the repaired transom from the hull bottom around the transom and up and over the top aft deck. In addition, i made a new motor mount capable of holding the weight. I feel confident that it will hold up just fine. The boat is not an original design of a BBSB, 1 man boat small and light. It is 14' 2" and build for 2 guys and a dog.

John the boat I intend to build and hoping to start next year, will be a devlin mallard, but I have plans to do some changes to it I.E. change the shape of the copit on it and build one like the Estuary, this boat will only be hunted by myself and my new dog when I get her next year. Has for my Engine I have
got a evinrude 1980 short shaft 9.9 and she's in good condition.
take care and God Bless
Eddie.

John whats taking so long to complete my boat????
I want to hunt with it already....
As for the 25, I had a 25 on my aero bbsb and that is a 12' bbsb.(it was the engine I had)
As long as you know when to not throttle you'll be fine.
I am wondering are you using a 25 because you have it or because you feel it is the engine for that boat.

Here some detailed photos of the canvas dodger / spray shield that you guy were asking for

This is in the spray shield position, note the two fixtures to secure the canvas in both positions

Track installed with the vallance which has a zipper and velcro flap to stop any wind and water from getting up underneith the canvas. This is one of the reasons I decided to go with the track. It will not let anything get through. Very weather tight.

Close up shot of the valance zipper with velcro. After closing the zipper flip the flap on the bottom of the canvas over to cover and protect the zipper

Cockpit floor and two backrest are installed. Dodger frame and hardware are painted. Mohogany grass rails are made but only primed , they will get a coat of paint on Saturday then installed. I still have to make the decoy racks. I'm hopefull I can at least get them made on Saturday and install later in the week. It has been a crazy week at work so I did not have alot of time to get things done.

John, looking good! I never get tired of sneakbox pics.

Any chance you can show a pic with the dodger down in the travel position.

Thanks. Mike

Mike,

This is the only photo I have right now of the dodger all the way down.
When traveling over the road for long trips I will just stow it in the cockpit, for the shorter trips I'll just leave it up. The ramp that I use most often is only a 5 minute ride from my house so no need to take it down and I also have a ramp at work where I keep my tender (228 Mako), it does not get any better than that. Keeping them at work is the only way I can get out for a first light hunt on days that I have to work and be back in time to open up the shop.

I'll get another photo of it from the front all the way down
