It's been 25 years since I last hunted Eastern MT but man what a time we had! Stayed in Lewistown and drove East to knock on doors for permission to hunt and we hunted BLM. Folks out there thought we were nuts to drive from SC to MT for a duck, most had pity on us and told us to have at them! Ducks in the morning, pheasant, Sage grouse and Huns the rest of the day. The Teigen Ranch was open to Block Management back then, just sign in and out to hunt, it was 50,000 acres, I believe it's been sold and private now. We hunted from Grass Range all the way to Winnet. War Horse Lake National Wildlife Refuge. I'd bet most of the ranchers who's land we hunted have either passed or leased the hunting rights unfortunately.
I just looked at a map, we hunted Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge too when War Horse was bone dry.
