I thought I would share two photos and a fun story. So I took my well trained 8 1/2 yo female to the marsh Friday. It was marginal with the ice but try to keep her from going. So my nephew and best hunting buddy and I have a great hunt with limits of ducks and then a few geese. (We did lose one cripple to an eagle before we could get out to it on the ice). Kate had about 20 retrieves fighting ice too thin to walk on and thick enough to be a struggle. The next morning I fed her and our 7 yo male (Never been formally trained and hasn't been out with me for 2 years. Keeps the wife happy in Kate's and my absence.). After my shower Kate was back in her bed sleeping. So with Kate on IR, I take Ajax to hunt that day.
We get to blind and I tell my friend to put the barbecue ribs I brought on top of blind while Ajax is in there during our decoy placement. We finish and I get to blind putting everything in place. No ribs on blind so Tom says he instead stuffed in my vest. Well the plastic container is in there but no ribs? Ajax looks a little guilty I think. Other than that loss and only a few ducks/geese flying it was a great day. Ajax retrieved his first goose and added a few duck retrieves to his belt.
Meanwhile Kate was home relaxing and getting a few holes in with my grandson.
