The boy has been training hard this past year and made the cut for the Yukon X-country ski team. That in itself is pretty darn cool, especially since he had an elbow injury and was skiing with only one pole for much of the fall. Right now the Canadian Nationals are on in Cornerbrook so so that's the second closest he's ever been to Greenland. : ) That's him with the sunglasses on. He's sure got the eye of the tiger to compete these days. Those kids train 4 days a week and its not uncommon for them to go for a "fun" 20 -40 km ski on the weekend.

Mike - That sounds like a very determined young man. You must be very proud of him. Is there any shooting in the sport like the biathalon (sp ?)
Hope he does well and has a blast.

Nope no shooting, just speed. We've joked about setting up a "bring your own weapons" biathalon range. That would be a hoot. Or do stations with a slingshot, throwing stars, bow, shotgun, etc.
 
I'll be watching for him in the next Olympics. I do think he'd be a natural at the biathlon.

The kid had the race of his life today in a 10 km Classic style and is offcially the 24th fastest boy-kid in Canada! Woo hoo! The kid he usually is neck and neck with came in 50th, so Mac must've been on fire. That is amazing. I haven't talked to him yet but a former Olympic skier phoned the house tonight to tell us how well he did. I gotta let my hat out another notch!

Mike congrats to Mac. Your hat should need to be let out you have lots to be proud of.

Please pass on my congrats to Mac. That is quite an accomplishment to make the team. I hope he is having fun with it as well.
