Maurilio pintail whistle...

Anyone hunt with the Maurilio pintail whistle? It's a small whistle with a roller ball inside and what looks like 3 ports for the air to exit. One on the end and two on either side. You can find the plastic knock off ones lots of places. Primos makes a roller ball one and there is another plastic version called Morwhistle. Just wasn't sure how well the Maurilio whistle worked before I continue to try and track one down and am either sorely disappointed in it or hopefully delighted with its sound. Any experience?

Actually Sean, there is no roller ball - it's a small piece of dowel parallel to those side chambers that flutters around when the call is blown.

Makes a lot of sounds depending on what air ports you cover; I usually use mine for making the "whoo-eek" of a wood duck......don't see the wooden ones offered anywhere lately. I think I picked this one up on the Eastern Shore in the mid - 80's.

I won't hesitate to use low whistling sounds on mallards, especially if they're working in close . Seems to work, and it sure doesn't spook them.

If you're not 100% committed to the Maurilio, take a look at Aaron Wingert's whistles. They don't have a fluttery thingy so you've got to do that on your own, but I really really like mine.

I do not have that exact name call but I use a "High Roller" by Primos. Of course it is not a traditional wood call since it is plastic but it does have the barrel roller. The only disadvantage I have had is contolling the roll of the sound from very high volume to a lower lower volume. It is great call and by closing holes on the side you can sound like multiple birds when blown in sequence but opening and closing with your fingers. Of course it will make the sounds of widgeon and teal as well.

Thank you for some of the replies guys. Yep Bob that is exactly what I am looking for. Thanks for the link. I saw that too, but unfortunately they are sold out and have been for months. I currently use a Haydel's whistle and it works great, but when the pintails are reluctant (and they always are) you get worn out fluttering your tongue to make the trill of the pintail and then you start blowing sour notes. I thought the Maurilio may be an easier way to do the trill as well as having a cool wooden whistle on the lanyard.
