The ruddies were the ones that seemed rather strange to my eye/ The body size versus the heads just seemed out of whack. I don't think they were the Ducharme replicas.

I understand the stability thing. Paint changed the perspective a bit. You chasing ruddies somewhere by Algonac? Only place I ever saw them sail into stool was over in Wallaceburg. Most of what we see down here swim in and go to sleep, or accidently pop up while doing their underwater thing. Even cuter than buffies, imo![smile]

George - get the same swim in behavior at our duck club but occasionally shoot them on a wing. On the Mississippi River they come thru our layout rig but, you better be 6 feet in front of the because they aren't stopping! Here are some pics of a complete longline of ruddy decoys we used on the Delta Decoy Hunt several years back. Only longline I know of completely of ruddy decoys...View attachment 20161105_075227.jpgView attachment 20161105_075012.jpgView attachment 20161105_110811.jpgView attachment 20161105_100333.jpgView attachment 20161105_081441.jpg

Last year I notciced some small birds behind my house in the field. After observing for awhile I figured out they were semi-palmated plovers. Was cool to watch them and hear their calls.

Now to this year I have had over 200 of them behind the house, guess my house is a migration location. They have plowed the fields recently and most have left but yet some more visitors came. Some I had never seen before and my wife was confused at my excitement when I yelled at her to come outside and look at them through the binoculars.

First time seeing black bellies plovers.

I really wish I had a camera to take good pictures. One day I'll get one.
It was nice to see these birds and I want to make some decoys of them someday.

Ben -

You are indeed very fortunate to live so close to their flight lane.

They appear to be fueling up on insects for their flight to the breeding grounds, and do what they gotta do.

Seeing the birds for Real fires up inspiration, and keeps carvers going. Very good stuff.

Thanks for sharing.

Best regards
Vince

Think I might do a double mounting of it along with the Wigeon, as I found a nice size panel at an architectural salvage that I think should serve as a nice backdrop for both to hang on.
Off to the Old West End Art Festival in Toledo this weekend. Will be helping our daughter-in-law set up her display. She was named BOS artist at the festival last year. The girl can paint!!
