Meg shot her first ever bird today!

Actually it was her first ever anything. We headed out at sun up to try to catch some grouse gravelling up along the road, and we did. One group of 6. Mac was a perfect gentleman and even though he got out of the truck first and found the trees they flew up into, he waited for her to get a shot. She lined up my old cooey by herself and down this one came. The rest flew away and Mac never got a shot, which he was a little disappointed about, but we were all pretty happy for Meg. She celebrated with a good breakfast and spent the rest of the day in her pj's, even when we took her out scoter shooting in the afternoon.

She had a bead on a scoter in the decoys but just couldn't get over her fear of the kick of the shotgun. Maybe next time.

Sounds like it's time Meg gets her own gun. Congrats Meg, beautiful bird and I bet it's tasty. Mac, proud of you for letting sis shoot first...quite the man there.

Holy Cow!!!....That's awsome. That's some gentleman your raising there Mike. I wouldn't let my sister get the jump on me....hehehe...I'd never hear the end of it!

Way to Meg and you too Mac.

Take care,

Ed L.

Wow... big weekend for kids' first... congrats to Meg, and Lee's Grandson (Blake) and Bob's son (John)... and Mike's Pup's first retrieve.

I hope I do as well this year...

Congrats all..

Way to go Meg. Ashley thinks you are the coolest girl on the page this week. Esp the part about hunting scotters in PJ's. Very cool to have the first grouse in the book.

Mike what gauge is Meg shooting?"

She's only comfortable with a .22 so far. She shot Mac's stubby 12 ga with a 1 oz load, but she doesn't like the noise and kick. No biggie, she can sniper grouse all she wants and eat my chocolate bars on duck hunts.
