Mr. Mallard

Very nice Decoy!

Out of curiosity are they imitation shot holes, or did you actually go out and pepper it. That would be pretty cool if you went that far in the name of authenticity!!!

Thanks everyone! Charles, the shot holes were made with an awl. I even pressed a pellet into a couple of them. I would be afraid of actually damaging the decoy with a shot gun blast. He was also dropped (carefully) onto stones and chain. I then rubbed him down with a scouring pad after sealing to knock down and sharper, clean edges giving a well worn look.
This is a gift to my son but will be gunned over next season.

What a great looking decoy. Your son will one day have that on the mantel with a ton of sweet memories. Loved that expression on his face that you caught with the camera.

I don't blame you one bit, there's no way I would intentionally pull the trigger on one of the decoys I made. In fact I routinely warn my hunting partners of what might happen if they mistake my decoys for a live bird. I'll have to improve my carving and painting before my decoys are in any real danger.

Again, nice work!
