I had two goals for this duck season. The first and formost was to have my son shoot his first ducks. The second was the same for me as every year, one day I want to take a limit of ducks.
I normally hunt out of a boat. This year I bought and reworked a fiberglass merry meeting bay scull boat (looks exactly like a TDB co Scull or a LS&B Brant). On opening day in the north after fighting for a spot and remember how to shoot while sitting I took a nice limit of two woodies, two mallards and tow teal (one blue one green). Goal one accomplished.
Yesterday I met my second goal. I took my sone out to Merrymeeting Bay and set up in a poor location to distance ourselves from other competition. The high tide in the morning meant the boat was more exposed then desirable. He took a nice green wing before we had to run off to school. After school we were back outand with less competition hid nicely in some tall rice. While there was far less duck movement I still called in a pair of mallards and we both took one in a picturesk manner. The mallards were followed shortly thereafter by a flock of green wings and again we each took a bird. He then took another green wing bailing into the dekes. To imortalize this day I gave him a call made by forum member Robert Furia (special thank to Bob). Photo of Phil, 4 duck, with boat and call below.
