This is my 2nd real decoy I've carved.

Started life as a block of cedar, would of been used to start fires but took it out of the drying pile and turned it into a gift for christmas

Took a planer to it to get a flat bottom edge.

Fraser valley. The last Brant I did, Ian helped me alot, this was more just a work project to get back into carving since I hadn't done any in about a year. And I've already almost done a shoveler Ian gave me, it was a roughed out block to finish.

big eiders are coming along
14 brd ft of cedar per decoy. heads are 2-1/2" thick, I am hollowing them and they will be finished with oil paint. I put a full size scotor and goose next to it to show some size.
I have 6 turned and in process

got clothes on my ringers a little more than simple gunning paint but I was in the mood to paint and the paint was flowing nice for me.

A NDR muzzleloader kit I put together this month. A little wood removal, a lot of sanding and some metal finishing but not a complicated 'build'. It's a .54 Lyman Great Plains Rifle, now to get out and shoot it. Had to get a couple pictures before that, you never know it might fall apart. :-)

Well, my first dabble into Oil paints today. Not as bad as I thought it'd be. I had to redo the chest becuase the first time I tried to do fancy dot work and then fan it, but that just turned into a mess haha but I wiped it clean and started again. Just gotta add the detail in the head now, add a grey over the sides and back and scratch it, and a white stripe down the side. Also try my hand at some feathers near the tail and it'll be ready for a late season teal hunt. I wasnt sure about the colouring of the red but as its sitting it keeps looking better as it dries.

Start with Burnt Sienna as your base color for the teal head Adam. Highlight the cheeks and jowls with some Yellow Oxide. Mix a little Burnt umber into your original Burnt Sienna to shadow your low spots and use that darker mix for the forehead, crest and under the chin.

Looks nice, purty wood.

You shoot patched balls out of that?

When I picked this kit up two years ago, yeah sometimes I put off projects, I had the choice between two and both had nice wood but I liked the stripes on this one. From what I hear though the wood on them is really hit and miss. Very little stain and a few coats of Tru Oil made it really pop.

Yep, I only want to shoot roundballs. It has a 1 in 60" twist.
