Old Time Member Passed Away

I thought some of the guys who have been around since the early years would want to know that Lee McManus passed away. Saw the obituary and figured some would remember him.

Lee McManus

For those who were not around when he was here is his Readers Rig.

I was just wondering where he was. I think he built the first BB3 on the page. He and I finished our boats at almost the same time and I was bummed cause I hadn't seen the change to the BB3, which would have been slightly better for my hunting. My thoughts and prayers go with him and his family.

I remember talking to Lee many years ago...I believe the topic was decoys

You know, I went back into the Roll Call when I read this news, to look for Lee there ...I didn't see his name but as I looked thru the list of all of the people, I realized how many people I have met here over the years and now call friend. The internet has made it possible for this community of boat builders, carvers and hunters to form and come together in a way we would never have been able to otherwise.

We have lost friends here before. Losing Lee means that this community is diminished once again but stronger if his passing helps us to remember that we are still a community of caring people...friends, regardless of the distance that separates us.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Lee's family

Thanks Tim, I remember Lee. Liek you said, he was one of the early participants around here. He and Harker compared notes while building their boats. Lee always talked about living in "The Duck Factory". He was a good guy and passed away far too soon.

I was just getting ready to post this as well. I met Lee through this site going on 10 years ago. He introduced me to SD waterfowling and I moved out here as a result of the friendship. It has been a difficult week for family and friends.

I am so sorry to learn this. Lee was as high a quality person that you'd meet and offered a lot to this site. He really loved waterfowling and passed that tradition onto his son. In fact I think his son went to college to be a waterfowl biologist. Lee was a regular here the first couple of years but then his employer removed outside internet and Lee was quite busy at home pursuing his love of painting so we rarley heard from him but I know he was still an avid waterfowler. I occasionaly heard from the first few years after he left but lost touch. Does anyone know the cause? My prayers go out to his family. Lee was one of us, father, friend, boat builder, artist, waterfowler. He will be missed.

My deepest condolences to his family. It's sad to hear another member of this forum has passed.

My hope is that he's painting and gunning with the rest of the good eggs that have moved on.

God Bless.

Eirc and I made an attempt to get drawn by the People's Republic of South Dakota with plans to go there and hunt with Lee way back in the early days of the site.....we didn't get drawn that year so didn't make the same trip, much to both our disappointment....

I tried two more times, becoming what might be the first person in History to "not" get drawn three times in a row so never got to go and hunt with Lee....

We staid in touch and Lee would send me scans of his art work from time to time plus he'd share the successes of his season.....

Sad to hear that we won't be able to do that anymore and regret that I never made it to S.D. to hunt with him....the marsh will be an empteir place wtihout him.....

Steve

Thanks for the heads up.
I too remember the good times back then. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Have a good ride friend.
