Parker's first ducks!

Reading Kyle's post about redheads made me stop and talk about my son. Parker(7) killed his first duck the other day, drake redhead! Proud Dad!

Then, he and I were able to double on some gadwalls!!

that's awesome Brian! Not sure how I lost touch with you guys but I just got Shawn's number (again... phones and I don't get along) and we need to get together again.

What a great way to begin a duck hunting career, Parker, by shooting your first duck and it was a drake redhead. I'm also glad to see that you and your dad connected on those good looking gadwalls.

If he will keep that "mean look" he has in the second pic going the folks over at Duck Commander may be recruiting him in a few years!
Great job Parker Man! And I know Pops is proud!

Excellent Brian. Congratulations to you both! I am willing to bet Parker has more hunting first's already than many kids twice his age!

A Drake Redhead for his first duck? Are you serious? That boy must be some kind of a special duck hunter for that to happen. Tell Parker congrats from the Pattersons.

Brian - btw, where did you get the waders? I've been having a tough time finding youth clothing... especially for Brody (wears 4T).

Kyle,
Think I've picked up both boys waders used during the summer. Van's in Cullman did have a nice supply of youth lacrosse waders. My kids are in size 4 waders and I think Parker will move up next year. Anything they outgrow, I'll pass it along to you Kyle. I have to thank Thomas Patterson for many of the kids hunting clothes!

What was the age and gauge of Shotgun for your kids? My kids are getting excited and want to go hunt with Dad so any help and idea would be great.

Thanks,

Chris

Hey Chris,
All kids are different and can handle different things, but mine started at 5 yo shooting a mossberg 510 mini .410 pump. Parker killed a turkey with it at 6 yo. That gun is small and fits them well. Now at 6 and 7 yo they are shooting a benelli M2 compact 20 gauge. My oldest can handle the kick just fine and shoots fairly accurate, my youngest will shoot it once and he is done for a while. Ear protection is what they are most concerned with when shooting, which is great. My boys are big and tall (take after their momma, haha). Not sure height but 72 lbs and 82 lbs. They both can handle their 7mm08 just fine and have both killed deer without a problem. I've been taking one of my boys hunting with me since they were 3 yo. Keeping it fun and short each trip!

Guys,
Brian is one fellow that is all about getting kids involved in the great outdoors. Besides taking his boys with him any chance he can, he normally takes kids on the youth days even back before his were old enough.
Here is photo of my daughter last year when she was 11 and Brian and I were still "cool". He found the mergs using a slough and called me about taking her for her first hunt. She had a great time still talks about that today. Thanks Brian! This photo is in my office now!

Maybe next I can get him to show me how to rotate pictures! LOL

heartwarming photos and stories; great to see the young ones out there and grinning up a storm...the baton passes!

Brian,

Long time no talk. Good to see the boys out and what a great first bird.

Hope all is well for you all.

Brian, that would be awesome! thanks for the offer, I've been looking for a "deal" on used waders but they don't seem to pop up much in these small sizes... I can't believe how big Brock is!
