The other hunters in the county are wondering what happened to all of "their" ducks! I've heard rumors about guys like you building these waterfowl magnets and shortstopping all the ducks.
 
Love the tornados Mark....nice work on that property. I'm gonna lease a field I hunted Friday next season but I'm concerned at the depth of the water...it's very shallow and the vast majority of the corn will definately be picked. The depth will be about the same as in your photos. I think the total is 111 acres but maybe half of that will have water. He may also buy the adjacent WRP that's 45 acres. If I do it I'll probably contact you and "pick your brain" a bit if you don't mind.

WOW, that's awesome!! You guys did a great job down there supplying all of those birds another "fairly" safe place to be.
 
I was hoping you'd post some pictures. It's been awhile since I've seen flocks of mallards out here, and as always enjoy your perspective on waterfowling. Great Job!

Very nice photos. Must've been breath taking. I've never seen that many birds in one place. Wow.

One thing I will say (that is never very popular around here) is that I don't think it is very fair to lump all "bunny huggers" and "tree huggers" into the same bucket. It is like lumping all hunters into the same bucket as the Duck Commander. I don't believe that either of those stereotypes is very useful or accurate.

I know a lot of very passionate "bunny huggers" and "tree huggers" that contribute time, money and energy to make sure the world we live in is a better place. Believe it or not, a lot of them hunt, or are at least supportive of hunting.

Heck, I've even been called one myself, and I do a lot of hunting.

This was a recounted story that happened about 20 years ago.

Heck, I'd be called a bunny hugger in many circles for not pulling a trigger.

Steve and I have been having shooting a few emails back and forth on the subject of non-hunting environmentally conscience people (NHECP) and the number of them who personally or in small groups purchase ground for the sole purpose of habitat restoration and wildlife viewing. I still think the hunting community still out number the (NHECP) but agree the moniker is not fair to be all enclusive.
 
Go ahead and whack daffy if ya want, I gots mine last year. Wasnt the perfect shot I had always hoped for, but scratched him out and had a terrffic retreive as a result of the bad shooting. Still got him in the freezer to mount, but couldnt decide on a set up or pose. guess me and the wife will figger it out one day.

Shallow water seems to be a big deal this year. Seen more ducks the last 2 weekends hit in 1 inch of water, stubble or grass, than land in 6-10 inch typical depth of flooded fields. Got 2 fields my farmers just lazer leveled with 5 inch tall sprigs of grass in them ducks where all over in the rain saturday. Next time it rains they gonna have a big surpirse waiting on them in that mud... me in a coffin. We rode around sunday before last and slide some boards in hopinh to have some cornors hold some water from the rain we just got, so hopefully with the season split and some more water, we'll come out 2nd season with a vengence.


Season aint been too sporty down here yet. My 16 year old has gotten back into hunting with me, which has been cool. So far Ive seen him kill his first snow goose & his first unassited greenhead this season. Hunted with a friend of mine who I trained his dog this year, and that happened to be his first limit hunt, and the first bad azz hunt she ever had, and they both did fantastic. Killed a wood duck on my place yesterday, which is SUPER odd, been 10 years since we've killed a wood duck on my farm. 4 came in with the wind at their backs, and got out with nary a feather scratched, bout 10 minutes later they gave us another buzz (well 3 of them, figgered they lost a comrad on their tour) this time without the afterburners provided by a 20 mph wind and killed a big nice fat drake. Was cool because ty's (my 16 year old) dad was with us just simply to see what we do (hes a born & bred deer hunter) and has asked about a woodduck that morning, and tj (my 10 year old) had NEVER seen a wood duck. So it was pretty sweet bonus.

is that the spot we hunted last year? If you ever have anyone bail out on you just let me know... I'm still zero for three this season. The hunting isn't good over here for me. Lots of ducks, all in the wrong spots!
 
Yep that's the same spot we went. Is your cell phone number still the same as last year?

If he keeps showing up maybe he'll be like Dave's boo boo bass and I'll have to take corn out and hand feed him. hehehehe
 
Yep, same number. Maybe you could slip a band on him next time you're feeding him... that's an incredible amount of ducks. I was in Arkansas last week and didn't even see that many ducks at one time!

I didn't know you were in Little Rock... I was there last week for a couple of hours as I drove through Arkansas to Dallas... We'll meet up sometime...
