Picture Monday.... a new frond bird

A bunch of birds have migrated from the shop to the studio, so there is plenty of painting to be done. This palm-frond widgeon kept getting some "what if?" additions as I carved (sorry, George), but I do like the way it turned out.

One of the challenging birds to spatter paint. Because the head on a widgeon has so many layers of spatter, I start with that (= the drake is a challenge, but the hens are a doggone final exam....and there are two hens on the Val-Oil table right now):

But if I hold my tongue just right, sometimes good things happen:

Heading to Indiana tomorrow morning to spend a few days doing more painting..... Only this time it's with rollers & bigger brushes. Got a friend who is moving back from Chicago to run a 150 acre Retreat Center. They've remodeled a house, and he needs help painting.

Wow-----what else can I say. I happened to be looking closely at the opened beak and the detail you present is so realistic. Just fantastic, Bob.

All you need is a white lab coat and you'll look like you are going in to perform surgery in that first pic Bob. Very nice decoy as always.

Bob,

Your work never ceases to amaze me. That is one wicked looking Widgen, and the thing that really makes me jealous is, you make it all look so easy. :>) :>)

I'm sure there have been and will continue to be, many more wells drilled, thanks to your efforts. I commend you for you dedication, it is much appreciated.

I have looked at those pics probably 10 times and I laugh (really its more of a giggle) everytime... Awesome paint, awesome pose!
