I can carve and paint effective, good looking, good riding, wooden or wooden and cork decoys. I can teach you to do the same. If you live in central or northern WI and want to learn to carve and paint your own decoys, and hunt over them 2013-14, reply to this post and let's get started. In return for teaching you decoy painting and carving, I would ask you to share waterfowling information about, and some waterfowl hunts on your home waters in WI.
About a year and a half ago, I attempted to "network" through duck boats.net and find some northern Wi Duck hunters with whom I could share a blind or marsh from time to time. A few responded, but no hunts resulted in either 2011 or 2012. At 62, most days I'd prefer to share the work of setting a 100 or more decoys with a partner, and have the safety of another person in the boat and blind. I'd also like to shorten the learning curve on some of the closest waters like Miller Dam Flowage, the Big Eau Pleine, the Mead, and Green Bay so I can know those waters well enough to get some good gunning before I'm 70.
I totally understand most duck hunters want fewer, not more duck hunters, and most Wi duck huntes really don't want to take on new blind partners or show them around their favorite marshes. I am not an average duck hunter, and I am offering a unique opportunity to learn decoy carving and painting in exchange for opportunities to hunt your home waters. If interested, respond to this post. A PM with email address can get you pics of a small rig of bobtail cans and goldeneyes I made for the 2012 season, so you can judge what you are getting in an instructor.
Thanks!
Mike
