Early season, we changed our plan after 4 inches of rain we decided to target the Wood ducks...
Rex loves his MoMarsh blind...

Like any good retriever, each duck is good for at least two retrieves...once to hand and second to the truck. Some even get a third retrieve to the fridge...

I was just wondering what 4 inches of rain would do around here? Most likely people would begin building their own arks. Nice shots of Rex. Good to see you were being so successful.

Go Rex! Thanks for sharing Hitch! I've started my season with several "Springer" hunts. Got to hunt with Frank's Springer Spat. Wonderful dog! Then, my buddy Gary has a Springer Sam that did excellent on teal. Excellent retrievers! Impressive!!!
Thanks for sharing brother! Pat

I grew up with Springers, but my dad didn't hunt so we never hunted over ours. Back then they were about as common as labs for both duck and upland hunting. Now that I've taken to chasing grouse and ducks, I see a lot fewer of them. Some of the upland guys have gone over to working Cockers; the woodcock hunters all prefer a pointing dog; and I don't think I've seen a Springer in a duck blind in the last two years.

I do get to hunt woodcock once or twice a year over a wonderful Springer owned by an old boss of mine.

I miss them, they were wonderful dogs.
