Sadly ....Last Post

As of right now, I think this will be my last post of the 2015 hunting season. Thanks to Pete, I actually have a picture of the adventure.

I am not finding locations that have birds, that are close enough to drive to.... and where I have found close trips... no one willing to layout hunt.....

So this is probably my last hunting picture/post of 2015...

Phil, Shame on you for spooking me. On the other hand you got a lot more hunting time than I did even though you are still working to support those of us who are not. Great pic.

Clearly your Fat Lady is in full voice.

Sad to hear. We open on Sat. And will do our best to take up your slack

Yes, a sad day when the realization finally hits you that, as rotten a season as it was, you'll have to wait another 9 months before you can do it again.

Personally, I'm done with the season that will live on in my memory as the "One Box Season".

Phil I'll help you with the layout, it's only about 20 hrs away. It's pretty bad here too but I still have over a month left.

Sculling has been slow too, but there are very few birds here to play with (also low water and crappy tides for sculling on most weekends)

Squirrelin has been good, Nikki likes squirrel more than ducks so I have been shooting a few a week. Nothing better then some fried squirrel!!

Geez, to think that you are also shutting down Kodi----wonder if he could talk?

Same thing is happening down here, Phil. I"m leaving with Habi this morning in 50 minutes to sit by the pond. Last time we sat there for 3 1/2 hours and saw just a hen mallard. I still enjoy being out there.

That's a great picture Phil. It is hard to see the season come to an end. Especially with the mild weather we're having in north east Wisconsin. Waiting 9 months is a long time. It's one of the reasons I decided to get a gang together and chase snow geese in the spring. May not be for everyone, but it helps beat the January blues. And the brats and jerky taste great.

Bummer Phil. Hoping that the ducks move south or our season may be slim pickins too.

If its any consolation, I am probably not even going to bother this weekend.
Very few ducks and a forecast of south winds and 72 degrees don't make for good hunting.
Might just go fishing.

Phil,

I'm right there with you. I scratched out 2 park ducks and 3 local geese this year. Oh yeah and one Gadwall in a marsh in Iowa. The last waterfowl survey showed Princeton marsh had 100 ducks. How does anyone flying in a plane count 100 anything. Very few migrating ducks came through here. The past few years our Woody population has gone down to next to nothing. Very sad. At any given time I have roughly 20 local mallards that feed on the shoreline across from my house. They have been shot at so many times that anything floating towards them will spook them. I've tried several times to float up on these birds. I've anchored and waited for them to come to me. I'm at water level laying in my 4rivers but they know there is something there and will not approach. I put all my duckin stuff away and I'm headed back to the deer woods this weekend with an archery tag to fill. Hopefully next year will be something between last years early freeze up and this years balmy shirt sleeve hunting weather.

Well Phil , having hunted with you and Kodi, I share your feelings but it was a great exerience hunting Goose Island 75 years after the Armistice Day storm ducks or not.

That was the highlight of my season....

Was that because it was such a great experience???? Or just that my season was that bad????? You decide ! ;)

Phil,
I'm sure Jim enjoyed his trip so much, because of the company he shared his time with. I am referring to Kodie of course!

I was really amped up this year. Made some decoys, bought a new boat and blind. Then we didn't get drawn for a blind this year.

Then I looked at the Ohio aerial surveys. There are or were large numbers of birds in NW Ohio mid November. I missed it.

Lacrosse was a highlight for me too due to the company kept, how pathetic is that? My season was fun but in bird numbers harvested it was dismal. Aprox. 4,000 miles on the truck, one trip cancelled at the tail end of the season, hunted three states and 5 birds in hand. Can any one top that mess?

Phil
It was getting back to Goose Island after all those years of course :-)
I could have ridden with Pete and gotten ducks ya know.

Understood Boz.... But you would have had to shoot 3 in 1 shot!!!!

And yes Tom... You might need to re-evaluate you life, in hanging around that group improves your hunting season enjoyment!
