Scary day at Gander Mtn....

I decided to make my way to Richmind today for my annual pre season duck hunting shopping spree. I went to Richmind because that is the closest Gander Mountain store. They have a great deal more for the duck hunter than Bass Pro, which is really closer, in Hampton.

As I stood in front of a wall of decoys, my lower lip started to quiver. Then I noticed I was having trouble breathing and my perifial (sp)i vision started to narrow untill it appeared I was looking into a tunnel. I started to panic when I realized I was in this section of the store by my self. This all happened when I came to the realization that I really didn't NEED any more decoys!! AAAAAAAhHHHHHHUUUUUUUUggggggggg.

As I looked for a place to sit down, as Forrest Gump would say,"God showed up." I remembered that 2years ago during a nor'easter I lost 2 hen ring necks. The only ones I had. Good fortune pervailed and they had several boxes of ring necks. I then had a stroke of genius and bought a box of buffleheads too so that I will no longer have to transfer them from one boat to another. Man, that was close!

I have never been so terrified in my life and I remind you that I have been through in two major wars, a chicken plucking contest, been married twice and hunted ducks for more than thirty years.

PS I also found the new Bass Pro up there and though impressive in size, still doesn't have squat for a duck hunter.

Howard,

I'm glad to hear your situation wasn't terminal and that a solution was at hand. Hope it wasn't too terribly painful.....LOL

Take care,

I know the feeling Howard, sweaty palms, having to got to the bathroom, blurred vision, lost of concentration, constant reaching in your back pocket.

I was lucky to get out of there with only a box of blue bills and a box of shells.I kept saying to myself, the market going down, the market going down over and over like a prayer. I think that helped. Otherwise it could be terminal.

Once you get to the parking lot a grin comes on your face. You made it again. You could have lost it all. Only those who have been there know the feeling.

I had almost the exact same thing happen to me.. I gave away 12 dozen older decoys,to solve my dilemma.
WHAT WAS THE SELL PRICE? Hee hee.

Howard,

Next time you make the trek to Richmond for Gander Mt., suggest you stop by Greentops first. Plan on spending several hours.

That is the same observation I had about the new BPS here in SPanish Fort, AL. The fishing & boating dept is incredible. The hunting dept, especially the duck hunting section, left a lot to be desired. I sure wish we had gotten Cabelas instead.

If you have a choice I think Sportsman Warehouse beats them both badly. They may not be as specialized in any one thing but they always seem to have the best cross section of products. The seminars they have at the one here are worth having them nearby, they are acually instructional and are not just trying to sell you some new gadget.
