Scooter at 21 Weeks

Started to weave together all the stuff we've been working on. Have been fading out the placeboard + have introduced hand & whistle signals for most of the commands she knows so far.

Decided she was ready for me to introduce the first step in the "baseball" handling drill Monday. So far she seems to "get" exactly what it is that I want.
Thanks to my daughter for the pictures of the afternoon session today:

We will keep working on going to "first" for the rest of this week.

Then, I'll add the dummy at 3rd base next week; 2nd base the week after that.
Hopefully I'll be able to "load 'em up" by the final week of the month and get the desired responses with consistency.

It's been a fun summer. Not much carving or painting going on (other than the back deck), but that can wait. ;-)

Shooo. I'm glad those graphics are there for me to follow along... LOL!

She's looking good Bob!

Can't wait to see more!

Look at those legs! I mean on Scooter of course. :) She has gotten tall.
It's great to see a happy pup retrieving. I can't wait to see a photo of her first big Black Duck retrieve.

Scooter is a fine looking girl, Bob. You two have to be having fun. I like the way she Stays for you.

Wonderful Bob! I think Scooter needs to get some Illinois River mud on her. We shoot plenty of bluewings and greenwings to break her in... Just a thought!
I hope you and your family are well. Pat

Long walk in the fields at one of the State dog training areas about 3/4 of an hour from us today.

We've been doing at least one weekly trip that requires a bit of a drive. Helps in getting the dog used to traveling in the truck crate.

Brought along the launcher pistol: a 9 shot, H&R .22, modified to accept a machined launcher head, and a good tool for acclimating a puppy to the sound of gunfire while marking a throw.
Scooter not only did a nice job of marking, but showed me that she can use her nose in cover as well.

Probably time to let her chase a wing clipped pigeon.

SWEEEETTTT......as much as I'm enjoying "B" and the new breed thing I miss a Lab in the house .....me something that will have to be remedied for sure...

That grassy area is really nice, Bob. That would be a perfect spot to toss a pigeon. I normally just use masking tape on the flights of one wing and if your pup has a soft mouth the bird should be good to go for more training.

Seeing you drove for 3/4 of an hour to get there, I am wondering if you would drive 130 miles to go get a green chile cheeseburger? That's one way. By the way, they were superb! Damn near got to Arizona on that trip.
Thanks for those cool shots of Scooter.
