Most of you get a chance to see mallards in a park. I have to go to a golf course to see these bovines of the waterfowl world.

Yes, even I dream of the day that one of these guys will turn left instead of right and fly to my spread on the Rio.

Great pics, that drake even has some nice leg jewelry. I have never shot a Widgeon, it's on my list of most wanted though.

I bet they were whistling paired up like that, the coolest sounding duck call in my opinion.

Years ago on this forum that last drake would have started a discussion about Storm Wigeons. He has a pretty head on him.

George,
I counted 6 banded birds, 1 being a female, but only was able to get good shots of those three. Good eye! There aren't very many birds around right now because of all the snow but when it melts, I'll run back up there to see if I can find some more. A good friend of mine has been banding them for some time now. Two years ago I took a hen that he had banded.

Hey Tim,

I have heard hunters talking about that. Check out the white chuck under the chin of the drake widgeon on the 9th picture. It looks like he would classify as one, also.

Awesome pictures! My favorite bird to hunt for sure. My last bird of the season this year was a beautiful prime drake wigeon.

I LOVE these pics Al!!! The wigeon is also one of my favorites! They are beautiful! There are a ton of them around up here but they can be difficult to decoy and not too many people hunt for them. Too many guys that only want to shoot "greenheads" and or geese. Boring.

Al,

Very nice pics.

Looks like some of the other visitors to that golf course have been spreading the cracked corn pretty liberally on the snow .

Maybe that would be the secret to getting them into some of your spots on the Rio ;-)
