Sometimes it pays to miss

Had six black ducks hanging in the stiff east wind and snow this afternoon and after my father and I put our guns down, six continued on their way. Well sometimes it pays to miss as a pair decoyed beautifully feet down into the snow shortly thereafter. My dad picked the drake and I downed the hen.

I think he got the better of the deal...

Well, Craig, I have to disagree. You got the better deal because you were hunting with your father. That makes you the luckiest guy in the blind. As for your dad's banded black duck, that had to make his day (maybe season). Do you know where it was banded and how old he was?

Al it was banded a little under two years ago, not far from where we were hunting. The bird was three years old.
