I went to seal a white cork decoy with some spar varnish to find it had hardened in the can. I have a jar of traditions cork sealer I will use. I have not used any of the traditions sealer yet. Is it as good as spar varnish or should I hold out until I can get a new can of varnish? I need varnish for the wood head anyway. Just getting impatient this evening to make progress.

Cork sealer is no problem, even on the head. That’s what it was made for. But it is discontinued, I have a half of jar left myself. Need to find a new sealer soon.
You can still get the multi surface sealer which from what I understand is basically the same thing. Bad thing is it only comes in a small jar that I've seen not the big 18oz jar the cork sealer came in.

Check out Varathane triple thick polyurethane. IMO it is the same formulation as the Jansen cork sealer and works fantastic.

Aside from carving a musky lure decades ago, I have not carved since. This thread caught my attention because I thought of penetrating epoxy immediately. The great thing about epoxy is that it also doubles as a primer and as porous as cork is, should penetrate well. Just a thought...
