And over the Robber...Robber hunt day 3 in Florida.

Just a fine day all around; I couldn't be more proud of my grandson. Shah made the retrieve on the diving and swimming greeny drake. After a few bobs and spins, Shah comes up with the drake and the high fives mute the echo through the marsh! I couldn't imagine a finer day on the records for Team Hitch!! I'm one proud Grandaddy!!

This is why I do what I do guys.

Great job Lucas! Be sure you sign the bottom of the Robber too.

Hey Hitch, are we running out of room on the bottom of that decoy yet?

Way to go Lucas!!

Hitch I was going to say that his smile makes it all worth it doesn't it! Gotta love it!!

There's still room on the bottom and on the sides of the keel Chuck.

And I'm going out with him again, so I'll try to get him to write a sentence or two in the book.

And BTW, the duck will be going on the wall.

Hey Ron, thanks.

BTW, your story about the naps was useful for me. I would have been worried during the first nap, but he got back up and loaded back up after a little half hour snooze early. The kid even slept through a few shots...amazing.

That is cool Hitch. Glad the Robber was there for that! Now, shoot a limit of cottontops over him.......

Cool! Give him my congratulations
How old is Lucas?
Does the Youth 870 fit him well?
We have decided that Youri will get his gun this summer and I am undecided between a Mossberg Bantam, youth 870 and a New England Arms Pardner pump.

Thanks Ira,

Were trying on the Wigeon. Just not much cold down here at all yet. There all piled up in the Carolinas from what are guys are saying, but any cold there may do the trick now. Pat and I will be making another trip to the refuge again, so that's probably our best chance.

And I love the decoy, words can't say; the way it sits on the water, and all the detail, the painting. But most of all, the kid shooting his first duck over it; someone's gonna have to PAY BIG to beat me out of this one...it's that special to me now.

What?...no BAND? Heh heh heh Congrats to both of you on a job well done. Love seeing kids get their first. Good on ya for getting it mounted, I'm kicking myself for not getting Blakes mounted.

Lucas is 9 and as skinny as a fence post. The 870 fits good with the short youth stock, but it's heavy.

I won the gun at a turkey banquet, otherwise I would get him something lighter weight...may still.

Hitch

Ha!! Lee you know what it's like.

The band would have been too much. I think I would have broken down right there if it had a band. I got the bird home and looked it over, mature drake, not a feather out of place, no blood, I'm not sure he hit it, God just decided OK, this ones for the Grandson, prayer answered. I know I haven't taken one this nice.

Then with Shah retreiving it, I debated long about bringing Shah on the first hunt, but he was a perfect gentleman, and was gentle with the bird...the whole deal...it's almost too much.

Hitch

Congratulations Lucas. You must be a pretty good shot hitting one of those little pocket rockets we call "Teal".

Hitch, the first picture posted of Lucas and the Teal is priceless; you ought to get it framed. You are a good man taking your grandson out with you!

It's amazing how a son or grandsons first blood makes your eyes get misty. Cool on the shape of the duck...Blakes was ugly....not colored up yet in Sept. and I had a lot of back and forths with the banding people about it being a pure Mallard...but when they said it was banded as an adult 12 years ago....I didn't have a chance....plus...a PHD banded it. Lucas and Blake are about the same age and build. Blake is almost 5' tall and weighs about 85lbs. The 11-48 that I made up for him fits like a glove and I don't think goes 6lbs. The 28 doesn't kick him and he is shooting it pretty well. 7/8 oz of hevi 7 1/2's would be murder in your swamp. The 16ga youth I won is way too heavy for him still.

Sounds like he is built alot like my boy.
I'm leaning towards the Mossberg Bantam. Its the lightest that I have found.

Way to go Lucas! Next time I'm down maybe you can show me how it's done. Shah won't even look at me now......hehe

Congrats to Grandad and Grandson. Don't forget to sign him up for that Delta first duck pin.

Take care,

Ed L.

Congrats to team Hitch for sure.

Sounds like the Robber is on one heck of an adventure this year....

Side note, our widgeon aren't where they belong right now. Very few of them at least. Not sure if they didn't like the conditions they found and headed to NC or what?

Sweet Hitch!!! He's a chip off the old block and, he's shooting the right gun. God has blessed you indeed my friend. I'm guessing this boy has Scouting in his future...

Congrats Grandpaw... pg
