Once in a while something will come along that makes one really appreciate this forum and even the arguments that we have.

Kind of makes cork type discussions and tailgate shots seem not quite so bad. A couple of the things might be funny without them all heaped up together and put on the internet, and normally I'm not one to worry about what people think. I think having to say "stink" all the time bugs me more then anything. Clearly a word used to get around the less internet friendly term used for less popular ducks.

Those idiots do more harm to the sport than all the polititions heaped together, what the H--??. Somebody neeeds to delete that whole unfunny mess.

Tim,I have to agree with both you and Tom,that is what will ruin our sport, This is the only website that I participate in,Im not a big computer person, but when I found this site and Eric and Steve helped me get on board,I knew this was the spot to be! Real names, where you are from, etc, etc.etc, Real people, that say what they mean, Im getting too old for that teen-age B.S. I always get referred to as Old school,if that is what the future is,keep calling me old school, cause I m not going to change, Eric and Steve thank you for a great site, where real duckhunters, craftsman, can get together,my hats off to the both of you,and all who participate on this site, Brian Rippelmeyer

this is the only site i belong to also you can call me old school too if you like i agree withyou Brian our future as true outdoorsmen and my childrens future depends on our attitudes and the way we do things today ... no bs here and thats the way it should be!!

Uh fellas...I think you're taking this a little too serious. Key word being serious.......it's obvious to me that they are joking and having a good time and judging by the photos the birds didn't seem to mind. I don't see anything illegal frankly. I wouldn't do it but I'd rather have these guys laughing and carrying on nearby in what is more than likely their once a year get together than some asshat kid with 9000 decoys and 47 Avery stickers and 47 eBay bands next to me or some old bastard that sky blasts all day.

I guess having fun isn't in the equation for ya'll? Lets not get into a pissing match over this by the way...it ain't worth it.

So Jay, While you're flyfishing, would you like me to show up next to ya throwing a modified plug to snag salmon/steelhead (yeah, I know how to "creat" a snagging rig with a "plug")? It's all in fun, right? Oh, that's right, you probably ONLY fish on flyfishing ONLY waters....to prevent that....

Clint

Jay,

Don't let him fool you, he is a ninja with a tackle box full of modified plugs.

He also has a beaded rope.

His logic is also suspect.

Be very careful

I agree with Tim's point about the carnage and bloody carcasses displayed in a manner that does not reflect well on duck hunters in general.

But I also agree with Jay in that it looks like an annual ritual that places more emphasis on fun than hunting ducks. Had thay not posted the carnage pics, I think we would all have a laughed and called them clowns and thought nothing of it. It looked like they were having a hell of a time and secretly, some of us wouldn't have minded being there for the laughs.

Had they been more tactful, we would be looking at this differently.

A)I don't just fly fish and...
B)I deal with snaggers everyday because I don't have any "only" water within 100 miles
C)These guys look to be far from snagger status

Oh, so this is a matter of disgusting photos...yes that's a HUGE problem and certainly doesn't reflect well on our sport. That photo rates about a 4 on the 1 to 10 as far as disgust goes on the internet. There are lots of posts out there that show some dipshit with a bird that was blown up with a load of BBB's at 8ft. Ever watch the Foiles DVDs where they do an instant replay over and over as some bird explodes? Now those are truly egregious.

While this guy may've shown some questionable logic displaying the photo in view of the extremely bloody bird on the bottom left I highly doubt these guys are "that" kind of person.

If you play, then you will pay. GOD will get you all{stinkys} for the abuse and mockery of the creatures{ducks} that you all have made fun of for your pesonnel pleasure and display. I can go on and on, but I am not a very religious person and will end it with this ,what goes round ,comes round.I'm glad I don't belong to http//www.refugeforums.com/... Thank you eric and steve for having duckboats .net site the only site I belong to with good sportsmen thru out the world.

Just to be clear I'm all for having a good time. I even think a couple of the things are sort of funny. The jewelry photo is actual more of a poke at those looking for more bling for their lanyard. Even the sunglasses could be funny.

The whole attitude on that forum is that divers are easy so they can act like fools and shoot a bunch, which they did. From a good source they also were heard being fools by everyone nearby, that is not so good. I hope some new hunter wasn't out on that bay for their first hunt that day. I'm sure even though they had many decoy all their crazy decoys affected other hunters by pushing some ducks away from shore. Divers may not be the smartest ducks but I've seen them get shy of shore and blinds. We aren't talking just bad calling by someone who doesn't know better.

For some reason all that ''stink'' talk on that forum rubbed me the wrong way. I'm just glad that I've never seen derogatory names for waterfowl get a pass on this forum. Even "sky carp" will often get you a correction here. I may think snows taste like old shoe leather but I don't make a joke out of hunting them or those who do.

Mostly though I just thought that even with our disagreements we are a much more respectful and a less divisive place then that is.

You know Tim, this type of thing (the refuge stuff) has been sticking in my craw for some time now. I just feel violated by what is happening to the attitudes of people in our sport in recent years. It seem like most of the stuff I hold dear about what I do in the outdoors is being bastardized by the marketing entities trying to sell more crap. It started out with the "stuff" like, mud motors, spinners, pop-up blinds, deer feeders, cross-bows, etc. Now it's attitudes like what is being discussed today. More and more I want to get back to the roots of why I always enjoyed being outdoors. It just makes me sick to see the disregard some of these "hunters" have for the game or the traditions we espouse on this forum.

Most of the time I try to believe in the Victor Hugo quote in my signature but stuff like this puts it to the test more and more.

As an outsider I usually fail to see much humor in ridiculous behavior of others. Theirs is a perfect example. The jokes are largely lost on me. Knowing that, I'd never go online with pictures and include the whole world in on some gag that only a few participated in and would appreciate. Seems a bit too adolescent and attention seeking for my tastes. Ira has shown some pics where his dog is wearing an afro and "doggles". Sometimes he or his partners put on the wig while doing serious hunting. That kind of thing can make me laugh. But these guys are just so over the top for me to even crack a smile.

To lighten the mood in this thread.....and prevent the invasion of pink flamingos and whacko middle age dudes wearing sunglasses.....

I thought that this attached photo should clear the air concerning my sanity........don't think I have ever worn a tutu in a duck blind though.....maybe I should......and I could be accused of going to the dark side, sitting on a lounge chair shooting innocent duckies with pink flamingos as company.....

I will state that I do not particularly care for the attitude of many so called "sportsman".....to many gadets....to many thingys.....to much emphasis on the "gut pile".....and the number of gut piles....

So I will clown for the granddaughter instead.....she thinks me nuts....and maybe I am....

The photo was taken Christmas morning.

Look, all I'm saying is that I think the opinions expressed initially were a little drastic in my view. This is based on the fact that in comparison to many and maybe most similar displays on other websites, this is pretty mild. That said, if in fact they were being complete fools and having an impact on those around them to the point of irritation or ability to work birds(which seems unlikely as they harvested quite a few at ground zero), then they should cut the BS or hunt private ground so they don't interfere with others.

For the very same reasons that we enjoy being part of the group at this website, many others don't. Personally, I have never felt that many of the folks that hang out on DHBP are uppity or arrogant or "Orvis hunters", but I've heard those terms used when they described checking this forum out.

In this instance you have a bunch of middle aged guys acting like fools which I'm sure they'd readily concede. Pete refers to all the same things that irritate the hell out of me(and hopefully the rest of us DHBPers)that have had a negative impact on the sport. If nothing else, it has eroded some of the grandeur that we all hold dear and often times shed a negative light on our sport. There's an entire generation of "waterfowlers" that probably don't get it. It's all about numbers and bands and stickers on your truck. For whatever reason, I don't think these guys fall anywhere near that category.
