The boat shop tent served me well during the sneakbox rebuild, but it had seen a couple years before I re-purposed it as my boat shop, and it was starting to leak. UV light was breaking down the material. Costco started carrying them again, so I bought 2. I like these because they have 3 doors and 4 screen windows. Only ones I have found with these features.

Added a floor this year to the shop, and am installing 3 fluorescent lights.

Tent on the left is new, in a new location, just a dry, out of the weather spot for the sneakbox.

Those look like they work great. Nothing is more important in my mind than keeping your sneakbox out of the elements in the offseason, it'll last forever that way.
 
No, they are a heavy tarp material. they hold up well, but 5 or 6 years of UV, wind, and snow is all they can handle. Have to keep after the snow as they won't support much. A few inches is all and I use a broom to push up from underneth to knock it off. Love to put a 2 1/2 car garage in its place and move all my tools from the garage and have a real shop space, but with 2 kids in college and other home improvements high priority (for others) in the list....
 
Looks great. No sense restoring a wood boat only to leave it outside. Nice to have your stuff out of the rain.
 
Jack, these tent shelters are 10x20. Costco has them as seasonal, and they are going fast.... $198 each. I add 1/2" PVC pipe to the bottom of each od the windows and the doors, makes it easier to roll up fst and tight. They have velcro straps at the top of each to hold them open.
 
funny story.... Before we moved to Northern VA, we lived in Vermont. In Vermont I had just 2.5 acres, but everyone around me had 10 or more. Could only see 1 neighbor when the leaves were on the trees, in the Winter, at night I could see lights of others. I had a kennel full of Labs, raised mallards and homing pidgeons for retriever training, and fattened up to a dozen geese each year for Christmas Dinners. So, we relocate to Northern VA, with my 5 Labs, and homing pidgeons.... and 5 boats, 3 of which are on trailers!. I am sure the neighbors thought the Clampets (sp?) were arriving! Fortunetly we have a couple acres here too, and it is a mostly wooded lot. I have 2 more storage tents tucked back in the woods out back in addition to these 2 new ones up by the house/garage. Right now, I have on my property, 6 boats, but only 4 of them are mine! And only one is not in a tent, but is up on sawhorses with a tarp over it! Now that the weather is getting nice, I need to get a couple guys together and re-arrange the fleet and get something moved up into the shop. I think the cedar strip canoe will be first as it is hopefully the least work... but in parallel, I want to build the sail rig for the sneakbox, though that is just busy work, no timeframe for completion, just someday.
 
I live just across the river from you Dave and my HOA is outta control. If I leave my boat in the driveway more that a week I get nasty letters threatening a daily fine until moved or put in the garage.
 
I live in lakeridge not far from Dave and I'm the same. Pay those HOA fees and stand back. Boats in front of your house are a huge no no. If I pack my Chuck Huff the night before I leave to hunt you can be sure I'll hear about it within a day of so. park a taxi or two or three and no one says nothing... I think the Huff will be painted yellow next year. Dave those are nice working areas...Cosco is just down the road.

Do you have a model # for the storage tent. I checked at Costco.com and I could not find it.

I am in the same situation as you - limited funds and time - unlimited house/farm projects and financial demands. So, I will not be building a shop anytime soon. A couple hundred bucks for 4-5 years, sounds good to me. The storage tent I have now cost a few hudred bucks and only lasted 1.5 years; it leaks and the zippers are shot.

I think I have the item number at home... I'll look tonight. They are seasonal, and sold out in my local Costco in a couple weeks, had to go a little further to buy the second one a week later. Have them search on 10x20 tent shelter. It was in the magazine a couple months ago too... but I'll try to gind you the item number.

OK, here is the item number: 496840 $197.99 each Good luck, I thought about buying a couple for spares for 5 years from now. But then I would need to by a 3ed to store them in! Never enough space.

My Costco has these as well. I was quite surprised about the price. I am sure that if you wanted to get a few more years from the cover, you could put an additional beige tarp on top to protect it a little better. At least if you can get a beige one, it won't be much of an eyesore.

you made me laugh. I didnt figure out what a HOA was till the end of the thread. I thought it had something to do with your wife. I feel for any duck hunter or fisherman who is not informed by the real estate agent at the point of sale. "You know sir, you will not be allowed to do man things outside of your house in your yard here, and we frankly just dont like your kind either!"
 
I have a garage that just barely fits my hull, but I still wait for the HOA to give me nasty grams for the tarped scrap lumber that I keep in the driveway when I am home. Fortunately, I live on a street full of military guys that the HOA has largely given up on. I try not to use power tools after 8 PM on week nights and the retirees live in the better areas of the subdivision, so maybe I'll avoid drawing attention to myself. I wish I could put up a tent like that in my backyard to get the epoxy dust out of my garage, but that would definitely twist someone's panties.
