Tod, that is a cool traditional black powder pump shotgun you have in your photo. Also, I guess you don't have an issue with the Vortex thing (in states where it is legal) because it does not have the pole positioning problem.
This whole "traditional" ego thing drives me crazy and decoy carvers have become some of the worst. If you want to really be "traditional" then you would use the latest and greatest (best) hunting equipment you can. That is what they were doing in the 1800s and early 1900s. The market hunters, decoy makers, and classic sports of old had one goal - to kill as many ducks and geese as they could and anything that would help was used. If aluminum, plastic, foam, fiberglass,.... had been around and affordable they would have been all over it. Not because they thought it was "cool" but because it made it easier to kill ducks.
Now if you want to say that you want to be historical in the way you hunt then fine. But that modern pump shotgun, gortex, outboard, fiberglass on the boat, GPS, Tanglefree line,....... don't need to be on the hunt.
Scott,
Just to send you a reality check - that is a semi-auto shotgun in my avatar that you reference several times, not a pump. I would think anybody stepping into a shitfight would have their ducks in a row (especially in their introductory statement) and be able to accurately identify one of the most common waterfowling shotguns used today. But hey, who am I to judge.
Spinners alter and increase harvest in ways that I find unacceptable. Thay are also nasty.
