The Scooter

General swim this morning. Haven't had her in the water since about 3 weeks ago when we were just letting her explore and play in the shallows with some throws long enough make her feet leave the bottom.

Now at 16 weeks, the "splashies" have magically disappeared, and I do believe she would've swum as far as I could throw the dummy, and for as long as my arm held out, but we stopped at four ;-)

I can see you standing on shore with a big old smile on your face. Has she had any feathers in her mouth yet? Jim

Jim,

Not unless you count the goose quills she 's been picking up and carrying. There are usually plenty laying around on the banks of some of the ponds I use. Likes to pounce on them if they're floating by the waters edge as well.

Haven't been in a hurry to introduce birds. have been biding my time with "sit, stay, come" 2 -3 x daily for short sessions with a few retrieves mixed in here and there (more for the habit of delivering to hand than any sort of marking). Will start putting some wings on the dummies soon.

Targeting 20 weeks as the point where I'll start to ask her to put some things together, but that's not a hard & fast schedule. Did some water work at a nearby lake that has a trap range across the road from where we were, and the shotgun noises didn't seem to faze her at all as she went about her business.

She looks pretty good from here Bob. Nothing like a new pup!

My very first dog's name was Scooter. She was just a run-of-the-mill mutt, but we're were best friends from about the time I was 7 or 8 until she died when I was a teenager.

I can't wait to see some action photos later this year.

Jon
