Thanks to the generosity of friends like Steve Sanford and Jamie Woods, an old fly tyer like myself rarely runs out of duck feathers. Staying home these days means I have the time to organize feathers and tie flies. A guy can go through thousands of feathers to find the right candidates for certain flies.
A daunting sight at the start of a session:
Different feathers go in different places on different flies...teal can be pretty finicky:
need just the right, symetrical flank feather:
To tie an Atlantic salmon wet fly, the Cutty Sark
same goes for wood duck flank for the cheek on a classic trolling streamer:
And of course, good old mallard for wings:
with a little teal over the top of mallard:
Hoping that all your feathers are being put to good use!
