Tohatsu vs Suzuki

I'm not sure if they said it already, but the Suzuki, Mercury, and Tohatsu 20 hp motors are all essentially the same except for branding and some features. I upgraded from a 2 stroke 15 hp Mercury to the 20 hp Suzuki this past season and can assure you that you will not be disappointed. The maintenance is a breeze and the motor feels like it punches above its weight class.

Received my motor yesterday. Onlineoutboards.com was awesome to deal with, great communication, fast shipping, shipping updates, etc..

I read through the manual and there was nothing about the type of battery required. My manual states 330 CCA minimum, and that a larger battery would be required for freezing temp.. so, I sent an email directly to Tohatsu asking about cold temp CCA and lithium batteries.

The Tohatsu rep replied, "We do not recommend Lithium batteries for our motors. For colder temps you should use a 650CCA battery."

That's a lot larger battery than I was anticipating for this little 20hp motor! I'll do some searching, but will probably go with an AGM to be safe.

Happiness is a box with a new outboard!

FYI: I used a lawn tractor battery with my older 18hp Nissan 2-Stroke and it worked fine. I sure miss that motor....
