Chuck,
your headed down a rabbit hole for sure. Ive got a cedar stave that I cut on a job and have my eye out for Osage all the time.
As mentioned above Clay Hayse is really a legit guy and shows the ins and outs of doing it yourself. (I believe he left FL fish and game to do his Youtube channel) There are books also.
I am using a Tolke Whip right now(Laminated R/D long bow) but have been trough the ILF riser with R/D longbow limbs and China made Black Duck R/D longbows of different weights along the path.
Single string is a whole nother animal from the compound. For me that is what makes it interesting. (Many of my friends say its nuts when I eat a tag from refusing to use an XBow we are allowed).
"The Witchery of Archery" is a powerful force. And a very relaxing way to end a long day in the back yard after work.
I think you will have a successful build if you take your time. And if you want to get a leg up on the shooting part the Black Duck/Hunter LB is cheap enough to get you going in the mean time. (less than 30lbs is plenty for target and form development)
Tuning an arrow to the single string is not hard but some shops are not up on it. Bare shaft after you get consistent with your anchor point and release.
For your form a book called "Shooting the Stickbow, a Practical Approach to Classic Archery" may be helpful to you.
Enjoy the build and all the time on the target working on perfecting the shot.
