UHMW for keel strips

personally I blame the lending institutions....an idustry whose particular level of greed sucked people into big loans they could barely afford when they signed them while not really underrstanding that the rate was going to change, and not DOWN........without that inpetus the big store building companies wouldn't have had the market for all that over building.....

Long strips of the stuff will definately sag...thats the installers fault as much as anything though....material that is too thin, and that is then not secured on the approriate centers is going to sag, and snag......that was also before adhesives were available to help with the sagging problems too.....they "appear" to have that solved now....

I definately agree with Steve on the lender issue...I can honestly raise my hand and say it's been a rough ride for my family. I actually yelled at the guy the other day on the phone and based on what he said to me afterward I'd say it wasn't the first time somebody did that day. ARM=OUCH.

As far as recreational property goes....I guess that's the beauty of it...everybody thinks that it adjust from the same parameters and so far from what I've seen it hasn't around these parts though I'm sure it has some effect. My phone is ringing off the hook and these guys have decent down payments. Most of the loans are non-traditional, usually more along the lines of ag loans.

Thanks for the links for UHMW! Anybody have any clue on how to order a strip that would fit over a keel like a "U" shape? How thick should it be?

There are adhesives that will bond the UHMW and 3M has a family of products to do so. Others make the same claims but their effectiveness is suspect. I know that we make adhesives to bond Teflon to Teflon so UHMW PE is not a problem. I am not the low surface energy adhesive expert but I do know a little bit about what we have.

3M makes and sells a product class of adhesives in the DP line. Here is a link to one of the products. http://multimedia.mmm.com/mws/mediawebserver.dyn?6666660Zjcf6lVs6EVs666KkYCOrrrrQ-

One other option is to call Jim Mueller at (651) 737-0705 and ask for his help. He is in the Industrial Adhesive and Tape Division within 3M and can either answer your questions or get you to the person who can. Jim retires from 3M on 8/31 so you would need to get a hold of him shortly. Tell him Mark Wollner sent you his way and be sure to tell him this is for a duck hunting application - this will get his attention. Be sure to wish him well in retirement.
