WAAAAAAAAAAHOOOOOOOOOOOO

Dani,

I've only been truly seasick once but have been queezy many times. Here are a few remedies that do work - not necessarily with everyone nor all the time.

Ginger - candied ginger, though fresh raw ginger is much better. Doesn't have to be peeled, just eat about a 1/4 to 1/2". Curbs nausea and the effects are almost immediate.

Bonine or Dramamine II - pretty much identical and work without causing drowsiness. Best to start taking the night before as well as before your boarding.

Meclizine Hydrocloride(HCL) is the generic form of Bonine/Dramamine II and much cheaper.

Never had much success with the pressure point wrist bands either manual or electronic.

Last resort, when nothing else works is the Scopalomine Patch that goes behind your ear. Doctor prescribed and from what I have heard (never needed them myself) it does work. I know of many scuba divers that use them when on liveaboards, etc.

Good Luck,

Pete,

Thanks for those thoughts. Sadly I am one of those that can be on glassy water, six inch swells and turn green.

The only thing I haven't tried yet on a small boat is the patch and that's just cuz i haven't been on the water in a while when I had a patch. I HAVE to put it on at least a day and a half or so ahead of time though because the first day I am knocked out. I've used it on cruises just as a just in case and I only remember one time while using it that i was still nauseus. But hopefully I'll be going fishing on the big water this summer sometime that i can give the patch a try and see if it'll work for me or not on a "little" boat.

I've once been sea sick while out surfing. Though that had more to do with the big container ship leaving the jetties and the boat exhaust blowing across me for so long. But I was still sea sick and had to get out of the water.

Dani,

I'm sorry to hear that. As much as you like the water, it has to be tough. I have known people, myself included, who have gone through episodes or even years of motion sickness and then it was gone - no explanation why. Hope that happens to you.

Yup.. sea sickness can be painful.. I am fortunate to be one of those people that have never even felt sick in the roughest of conditions.

Dani - if you are around St. Augustine from Nov to mid May and want to go offshore fishing let me know. Depending on what we are fishing for the runs are from 35 to 75 miles east.. some days can be real flat, but there is usually some sort of swell (waves with a long period) that can really make some people sick..

I emailed you some pics..
