What a time of year....

He loves deer hunting, because we draw on a note pad and eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and drink soymilk out of mason jars and only hunt for 2 hours at a time. I hunt with him out of a double bull and that is the only way I could imagine it working out. I found putting amplifying ear muffs on him works amazingly well to make him conscious of the sounds he makes. We process a lot of deer every year and I always joke with him that he has to start gutting them. This was the first deer he helped dress (helping by holding a leg), so that was cool. When he can dress them and drag them out - then we will be talking!

Tod,
Sounds like you are doing things right. I hope to be able to someday take my 3 year old grandson out. It is the only reason I am holding onto my double bull blind. I hadn't thought about the electronic ear muffs working in the manner in which you describe, I'll have to remember that.
Nice photos BTW

Your right it is a great time of the year and better able to share it with your son as you have. We (my son and I) were able to enjoy the opening of the Northern Wisconsin duck this weekend but had the peak color right there so didn't have to travel.

Thanks Jim. I sure hope I'm as lucky as you being able to share openers well into the future!

Thanks Dave. I only bought the double bull to hunt with Gus, doesn't get used much otherwise. Try the amplifying muffs with a kid - you can carry on a whispered conversation and keep them interested and the game doesn't react. I use the muffs for deer hunting with rifle and turkey, but once I tried them with Gus it was magic to quiet him and let us have a nice hushed conversation. I use the Howard Leight muffs and have got good service from them - I have 2 pairs.

Thanks Steve. Our duck opener here is next week, so I'm trying to fit it all in here before it all breaks loose.'

Tod,

It looks like you had a great time!

I'm like Dave, just a year behind. My grandson turns 2 tomorrow. I use to take his mommy fishing and hunting. I have a feeling his first fishing trips will be next year.

Thanks,

Tom

Tod, your post just left me with a big smile. Sounds like a perfect weekend. I love those Brook Trout... definitely my favorite to fish for.
