What Does YOur Dog eat?

Just out of curiosity, i was wondering what you guys feed your dogs. When i got my yellow lab the breeder fed him Proplan. Well a friend of mine not to long after getting my pup convinced me to switch to science diet. To make a long story longer i'm at Pet Smart the other day comparing ingredients of Science Diet adult large breed to Pro Plan large breed and a couple others. Pro plan was the only one that boasted real chicken as the first ingredient. Everyone else had some kind of chicken by-product. My immediate thought is i wouldn't want to eat a chicken by-product so why should i feed this to my dog? Anyway just wondering what your all thought are.

I don't have a hunting dog anymore but I do have Siberian Huskies that I used to race. All the racers that I know feed Annamaet dog food. The 26% protein formula is like putting the dogs on steroids. Off season I feed 23% and now the adult formula. Annamaet was developed by a veterinarian in Sellersville PA. My guys love it. It's dry and I get 40% delivered to my door for $38.

Just before and during hunting seasons I feed my male Eukanuba Premium Performance and then during the off-season(just started a bag yesterday)I feed him Euk. Large Breed Maintenance.

I feed my old girl Aggie Iams Active Maturity. I used to feed her the same as Stanley.

I pay quite a bit of money but seeing is believing when it comes to dog food. I have tried many different brands including Science Diet, Diamond and a couple different fancy brands of which I cannot remember the name. Without fail, I always switched back to the expensive Eukanuba. My dogs digest it better, crap less and the crap they do make doesn't stink as much, they don't eat as much, they're lean and healthy and their coats are impeccable.

I'm sure there are others out there that are just as good but I'm happy with what I feed my dogs so I pay more than the average guy and don't mind doing it.

Pro Plan Performance during peak training and hunting and Pro Plan Large Breed during "off season".

On reccomendation from sled dog owners we went with Euk. It appears that they changed their formula a few years back. The kibble size was changed but the customer reps swore it was the same product. My dog said otherwise as he wouldn't eat it.

Now he is on Innova because it is locally available.

For many years we fed Eagle Pack and were very happy with it. A few months ago we ran out and couldn't get the Eagle Pack so got a small bag of Maximum Nutrition from Walmart. The dogs did great on it. It looks like Pro Plan. And it is now what we feed. The price is great, the dogs are doing great on it, and the dogs stool is small and firm, eas to claen up!

Purina dog chow.

I have a lab that is in her 15th year. In the beginning I was buying iams, Euk, proplan and science diet which were all good and great for growth and development- but expensive. I then ran into financial issues and the dog food purchase became purina so for at least 13 of the 15 years she has been eating purina. I have no regrets to switching to this brand, the dog is very healthy and my wallet stayed healthy also.

Now I don't hunt her anymore, as of last season. She's a lump in the living room which you have to walk over, but she's still able to climb short stair cases. I considered switching to the "lite" formula; however at 15 yrs old is it the right time to go on a diet?

Each dog is different so with Cato(drahthaar) I have tried almost everything in the last year to maintain a healthy weight(too skinny) without having to feed him 8 cups a day. I have done lots of reading, comparing and only used quality foods. I have tried Eagle pak; lost weight, stool very dry and he strained. Nutro high energy; lost weight, stool very dry and he strained. Royal canin 4800; recieved a bag that was moldy, loose stools, gained wieght but fat. Eukanuba premium performance, maintained wieght ok, loose stools, got sore after hunting for a few hours.

I have finaly settled on a mix of 2 foods from Innova, 2/3 of their EVO, 42% protein, 21% fat, no grains and about a 1/3 of their basic adult food to cut down on such a high protein. Both foods have over 550 calories per cup so I am only feeding about 4 1/2-5 cups a day and he is holding a healthy wieght, more musclar, has great endurance and stools are good. Drawback is its extremely expensive. A food I don't have around here and would have tried and still may is Nutrisource. Have read good things and have a formula that may be just right.

The old boy is so finicky that I have to change foods every couple of weeks. Sometimes Nutro, sometimes proplan, sometimes euk. Always a high protien, makes a huge difference in his energy level over the "maintenence" foods.
At 11 years old thats a plus.
The pup (1 year) gets the same. Seems to be working for him. Good coat, too much energy:), healthy weight.

Both GSP's

ProPlan from the day one-
Raven is a year and a half and it works well for us.
I get alot of comments on her coat from other lab owners
My breeder suggests it

Royal Canin for labs. I've used this food line for Rotts, APBT and Labs with great results. Just look at the royal canin site www.royalcanin.us and find the dog specific food for your friend.
During hunting season in Alaska I used to add pink salmon to the diet to boost good quality hair and body oil. Now that I am living in the Lower 48 I guess I'll buy some canned pink or else boost the diet with some olive oil. We have to do that with the APBT because of her low hair density and tendency to get flaky skin other than that we been happy with Canin for about 15 or more years.

Pro Plan Salmon/ rice.

Bessie sammiches also during duck season with a mallard curl feather for garnish!

Mine likes to eat dog crap. Must be some pretty good food if he wants to eat it twice.

Proplan Large Breed Puppy

Well, we've all seen them dine on a steamy pile. But in all seriousness, "coprophagy" can sometimes indicate a dietary issue. Could be that Pro Plan ;0)

He prefers them frozen

Poopcicles

The girlfriend's dog does too. tough when it's dark when you go to work and dark when you get home. Lucky to clean the yard once per week.
