What is your special goal for the season?

Outside of being safe and ending the season with life & limbs intact, my special goals are:
  1. My son shooting his first duck.
  2. Coco making her 1st real retrieve.
  3. Shooting a limit of all drake scaup and redheads down on MS Sound or Mobile Bay.

What are yours??

1. Hunt as much as possible with Dad
2. Get together with good friends to hunt
3. Get a few birds I have never shot before (widgeon, canvasback, redhead, goldeneye)

I haven't shot a GE or Can since the 2004-05 season, it would be nice to get a few this year.

I try to get new drake species of ducks to mount for my den. I'm concentrating most of my efforts towards some of the diver species I don't have. Redheads, Bufs, Cans, Common and Redheaded Mergs. I get as much satisfaction out of a new species as I do a limit.

I hear you, Tom. Its always cool when you check another notch on the species list.
I blew a chance at white-winged scoters 2 years ago and havent gotten another shot since. We see very few here unless even in extemely cold years, maybe this year???

1.) As a couple of you, get my son his first duck (doesn't matter as long as it's flying!)
2.) Perhaps for me, to get my first wood duck
3.) Spend time with good friends in the blind
4.) Everything else is gravy

I have a few

1. Have a safe and successful trip along the East Coast.
2. We're going to try and get a 25 man limit on all drake bluebills in one day.
3. Try and kill as many species as possible while on my trip.
4. Put some folks on some GE's.
5. Get a pair of Blackducks for the deadmount.
6. Help my girlfriend kill her first limit.
7. Try not to go bankrupt with my taxidermy bill.

Hope everyone has a safe and successful season.

Carl.....I sure would like to get one of those Redheads in your name photo. I got one last year but he turned out to be an immature and not worth investing money in. Last year was the first year I didn't get something new but had several good hunts. Part of the problem was that I was hunting mostly puddle duck places. If I hunt the bigger water more I should get some opportunities for some diver species. I just have to approach it like a trophy deer hunt and be persistent. I'm in the process of building a boat blind and incorporating some diver decoys in my spread. My son doesn't have the patience for the trophy duck approach but prefers more action and results. This year he's studying at the University of Alexandria in Egypt and will be there all year. So it will mostly be me and the dog.

It's definitely about who I get to hunt with this season
Get Bailey out on a few hunts
Make it back to Missouri to hunt with dad at least a couple of times on our farm
Finally get in a good timber hunt
Late season goose hunting? It's been a LONG time since I did that.

I always seem to have more ideas and goals for the season than ever happens but the main thing I want to do this year is take advantage of the 4 scaup limit. with that limit it makes it doubly worth scouting and planning hunts on the big lakes and who knows when/if well see it again

To be alive at the end of the season and the same goal I've had for many many years - shoot a banded bird.

I usually have goals of shooting this species or that species or this many or hunt a new location or Blah blah blah. This year I have 2 goals. 1. Get my daughter her first duck. Hopefully tomorrow that will happen and 2. Focus on training my new Pup so I can have many more enjoyable years with a well trained retriever.

Still looking for a drake pintail and drake wigeon. Other then that just a fun safe season with some cold weather.

Already achieved it. The kid I've been taking out for youth days the last couple of year took me to his spot this year, figured out the set-up on his own, and I just sat and watched while he took 4 ducks. Then he invited me back to hunt it any time I wanted. Great day.
