Lots on my bench still but these are the only ones coming off the bench so far in June. I finally got them finished. How about you guys?

Brandon as always outstanding! On my bench, 2 antler mounts, and an indian arrow head display.

My son's 3rd birthday is this month. He has already shown great interest in decoys and birds. He also joined me last year for a day in the blind and still talks about tossing those decoys in the water. I figure Ive got a waterfowler in the making so Im carving him a bufflehead rig. A couple a year until he starts hunting. He should have a nice rig by then. I started this one last night.

Good of you Doug to pass that on!!!

Brandon the blacks turned out very nice they have been on the bench for several months now and it shows when you look at them.

here is a bird carved for a of buddy of mine. He recently gave the bird he was handed to a friend of ours as a retirement gift due to time restraints. I promised him a replacement

yes that is a coat had on here in Mo. Last week heat index over 100 last night temp of 50 and a NE wind of 30mph it was COLD lol

Tom, either you mixed some mars with white , because i am reading blue on the back and body==Perhaps a wash of raw umber may help-If oil, try raw umber and turps, just to kill the blue. If it was the camera, ignore this!

George it was wash out from camera. Raw umber and white no black at all. Schupp would drive over here and beat on me for something like that

Tom, I like the pin. Your style shows in all your birds. It would be a neat exercise some time to all bring a decoy we had not shown to a gathering. Place them all in the water and pick who carved what. I am fairly confident I could pick your decoy out and I am sure I could pick out Pats and a few others as well.

Making some stuff for my own use this month. I had a box full of puny fronds that's been laying around for some time; no good for full sized decoys - but just large enough to turn into more pickleweeds to add to the bunch I'm already using in my field goose-rig and in shoreline vegetation as conditions allow.

Have a bunch of "bodies" glued up, and a box of heads ready for eyes and some final bill details. Then it will be time to put them together, shape them, and paint.

They've been very effective for me in stubble, and easy to haul for sure.

That would be fun to do I agree Brandon. Since there is no Missouri school or type as in other regions I guess we are free to develop our own lol

Bob,
Please show us how you carve in your bills. Would love to see the full process. This is the only area I struggle with.

Thanks!

Pat, with those, you should be able to shoot some OLD ducks!! Patiently await the paint Man, you are really keeping the Illinois tradition alive, fella!
Got 14 of the mallards keeled today--After dinner--Afternoon was spent cutting keels, drilling holes for lines and lead, AND bleeding like a stuck hog from another jump from the wood to knuckle with a spade bit wound--Wife was unhappy, finding the blood trail from shop to the bathroom---Yes, i wiped everything up. Doing keels, pouring lead, and painting the keels have to be the most tedious tasks in the process. Heck, i even like filling the garage tub, float testing and gluing! Best part is getting the darn things into the hands of new owners.. Radiation treatments this week.. Should be an interesting time. The boss had the Savi device cat scanned yesterday, and all is now ready for this journey!
Will send you some shots when all are keeled. Will shoot outdoors in the dandeloin and clover!

I don't know who makes the most decoys.....Pat G. or George W.
Both of you guys do amazing work!!!!!
Actually all of you guys do amazing work! I just know Pat and he shared his talent with me, showed me how to make cork decoys and I
am thankful that he did. I have never met George W. but I really like his
decoys because they have lots of character to them and are great examples of gunning decoys.

Thanks, Tim. Fun thing is that they seem to work wherever they go. I have had a lot of fun making them in the shop-time well spent!! Hope Pat now has you hooked! It IS a lot more fun making and using your own, than messing with the new gadgets, for sure.

George,
Pat does have me hooked on making decoys. I have a hard time
getting the time to work on decoys...... I still have decoys that I made 2
years ago that aren't finished but I am trying to get them done by this fall.
I hunt over some old Wildfowler Oversize Mallards and Blacks, LL Bean cork decoys, and cork decoys made by you, Pat, andTim McEntire).
My floating goose spread still has plastic decoys in it, but everything else is cork or wood.
I also hunt over some cork decoys that I made. There is nothing better
than hunting over a spread of wood and cork decoys.

Tim

George, I like your comment on the other thread about being left handed so not being able to post pictures. I am left handed as well but I'm not sure about it creating a tech deficiency. Its a good excuse though.I am typing this on my phone what's work eh?

Paul we require pictures of this supposed decoy.

This us getting old doing this on my phone ill post more later.
